I felt it to be a refreshing read that over all left me feeling more centered. Deborah Blake has a easy going writing style that comes across a friendly conversation. The book has 11 chapters that are full of wonderful and simplistic suggestions on how to incorporate your spiritual path in to your everyday life. While a lot of her advise seems like common sense it gently reminds the reader how to take a step away from daily grind and nurture your spirit. Personally ‘Chapter 3 Making Time for Spirit in a Too-Busy World‘, and ‘Chapter 9 God and Goddess in Everyday Life‘ were the most useful to me. Chapter 3 is short but it reminds the reader the importance of making time for your faith and the positive effect it can have on your outlook. Chapter 9 is full of insight in to building a better relationship with the Divine.
While this book may follow and use a Wicca format I want to stress this is not another Wicca 101 book, but it is great supplemental reading for anyone following a neo-pagan path whether it be Wicca, Witchcraft, Druid or Reconstruction. I give it 2 thumbs up.
Otherthan that, the book is about implementing the craft into your every day actions, as expected.
As a practicing witch for over 40 years, I would still be the first to tell you that we never stop learning the craft. Whether from mentors, books, or personal experience, we witches are professional students. What I love about this book is that it is never preachy and never conveys a holier-than-thou, know-it-all attitude. The chapters are short, the prose to the point, the advice and suggested activities practical and easy to follow. Deborah Blake writes in everyday language we can all easily understand and gain knowledge from without having to look up word meanings or gather elaborate ingredients. It is practical Magic at its finest.
As soon as I finished this book I jumped right into The Goddess is in the Details, which she actually wrote first. This is something I rarely do, as usually I need a break between reading multiple books by the same author. Because the chapters are short and simple, I can read it alongside whatever fiction book I’m also reading without have to go back and reorient myself as to where I am in the book when I pick it up again.
Whether you are a seasoned practicing witch, a neophyte or newbie witch looking for direction, or just a curious muggle, Everyday Witchcraft will have something to offer you.
I've been looking for ways to incorporate my paganism into my daily life more -- actually LIVING my spirituality instead of having it be compartmentalized on sabbats, etc. This book is WONDERFUL for that. As with all her stuff, it's a pretty short, quick read, but it's absolutely STOCKED with great suggestions. You'll probably find yourself referring to it again and again. Highly recommended.
