Love those Russian videos that have some basis in reality. The woman sniper actually existed and did what was credit of her. However, the scene about her squaring off with a German sniper sent out to kill her, is simply Russian propaganda. You have the same fictitious story in Enemy at the Gates. Interesting that this scene also shows her being hit by the German sniper; left wondering if that scene should have been edited out.

I didn't know what to expect since this movie had some 1 and 3 star reviews as well.
Obviously the equipment is no longer practically available to do huge battle scenes.
But this a different kind of war movie, revisits the memories of a gentleman who
did his duty for his country in WWII as so many others did.

Don Smith's son has created this film independently without hollywood-type
combat equipment and effects. But the message is well done.
The movie is filled with the emotion that these young men had in love and war,
and as a true story, is especially meaningful. It is the REAL story of his father,

It is a war story, a love story, and a REAL story, all in one.
Every WWII vet could identify with a lot of it, and every
kid should have a chance to see it and remember what our
Greatest Generation sacrificed for us, just doing their duty.
A generation of quiet heroes who we should never forget.

I also recommend this for any history class as it is factual as well as
great insight into the war experience of combat infantry.
Thanks for a great movie, Thad!! For me, this is a keeper.

Did the makers of this film run out of wide angle lenses? All the scenes appear to have been filmed with close up lenses...not very realistic looking. Poor acting and sub par action.
It was like watching a porn movie without the porn.

This movie appeared to receive a lot of honors and recognition. Not sure why. I am a big war movie buff. The acting in this movie was so-so. The production was very weak. This was the first time in my life that I turned off the movie when it had 15 minutes left...that's how bored and uninterested I was with the movie.

I thought the movie could have been much more. Lacked a bit on the story. It never really dove into the stories of each character. And it seemed like they "short cutted" the whole plot to the movie. There were no big name actors so I thought the acting was a little "cheesey". All in all, it was just o.k.

War is not glamorous and once in it one cannot wait to be done with it and home again. Well-acted and well-written. If you understand relationships that evolve in small units - especially ones that deal daily with the horrors and discomforts - you will appreciate this movie. The plot is secondary.

A good WWII movie---covers the action from a different perception of the cost of war. But great ending!

Good Independent film. Not the big budget war movie that most films are. Has a good story line. More of an interest to me because my father served with the 94th Infantry Division.

Good rendering of what our vets went through the winter before the end of the war.
