Great Short Introduction to PB in the US

Josh Lerner's book is a great introduction to participatory budgeting in the United States. It is a short and quick read, but does a good job at contextualizing the implementation of participatory budgeting around the United States. Lerner's book both outlines key political actors are outlined and the appeal of participatory budgeting to particular groups. One receives a short but helpful history of the Participatory Budgeting Project (a nonprofit that has assisted various municipalities around the US in implementing PB), as well as the reasoning behind the involvement of other local actors, whether community advocacy groups or politicians.

In all, this a very timely read and will catch anyone up to speed with the progress that is being made by the participatory budgeting movement.
