Sonia was raised by the vampire Gregor, after her parents were both killed and as a sister to Gregor’s only son, Yuri. However, Sonia doesn’t know that Gregor & Yuri are vampires since they raised her as a human and acted human around her. Sonia has always had a certain abilities that she has had to learn to mask over the years from people, because her father always told her to keep her abilities private, abilities that he also had. At the end of book 1, Until the Sun Falls From the Sky, we learned that Sonia was one of “The Three” and was destined to be the mate of Callum.
Callum is King of the Werewolves, and lives primarily in Scotland. He doesn’t interact with humans that much and therefore is somewhat baffled in how to get to know and court a human female in order to get her to become his mate. He knew of his destiny since Sonia was a young child, he knew who she was, but had to wait until the right time to come into her life.
Sonia knows nothing of the immortal world and therefore is leaps and bounds behind Leah (Lucien, the vampire’s mate). She does know that Callum is like a different race of human than her. So she jumps in whole heartedly in her destined relationship with Callum without getting all the facts. She knows that she could fall in love with him and does, but she also thinks that Callum is only with her out of duty and destiny and that he doesn’t really love her. So in order to protect her heart, she holds herself back from all that is Callum.
I really like Callum’s brothers, Calder & Caleb and his cousin Ryon in this book. They are funny for a variety of reasons. They help Callum with his understanding of women, female humans in particular, relationship advice & working advice. Even though there is a lot of ribbing going on, you can feel the bond that three of them share and how close they are.
There were some parts that had me downright sad & crying but others that I laughed & loved.
We learn a bit more about the destiny of the Three and what trials and tribulations that Sonia & Callum will face. There is some forward movement between the factions of immortals fight against each other, but not much.
When Sonia was just a little girl she saved an injured wolf from hunters on Christmas Eve. She got him to follow her back to her parents cabin & she fell asleep next to him in front of the fire. When she awoke he was gone and she thought her "puppy" had died. That was the night the future king of wolves met his lifemate. That was the night her life changed forever. Instead of being raised by the doting parents she adored she was raised as the ward of Gregor & his son Yuri. And while they love her she feels she has to hide much of who she really is.
WOW!!!! I seriously loved this book and these characters!!! Yes, Sonia had some major quirks but I definitely understood them the farther I got into the book. And yes, Callum really be a jackass sometimes but he is the king of wolves and an alpha male. But everything about this book worked for me. While Sonia may have seemed to give in quite a bit she learned quickly to stand up for herself when she really felt strongly about something.
I was really a little worried about buying this book because of several reviews but I'm glad I asked around. I thought I loved Until the Sun Falls from the Sky but this one was SO much better. I am REALLY looking forward to reading book 3.
