With excitement and anticipation I dove into EVERYTHING I LEFT UNSAID. Unfortunately, despite some interesting secondary characters, namely Ben and Joan, within a few chapters I soon realized that Annie and Dylan’s peculiar intimate relationship wasn’t going to work for me. Let me explain. Annie is fleeing an abusive husband and vows to never bow down to any man ever again. Fresh start, a million possibilities. But, what does she do straight away? With one chance phone call, she willingly falls into another controlling relationship with a strange man who, over a series of heated conversations that include masturbation, dictates rules for how they will interact. He then goes on to command her to do a variety of sexual “tasks” that she must complete before she can call him again. Her obedience is eventually rewarded with phone sex. If that isn’t a toxic and red-flag-filled relationship, I don’t know what is.
And, as for the author’s overuse and reliance on phone sex? One spicy phone scene in an erotic romance can be great, staging the majority of the sexual encounters between the central couple over the phone only? For some readers this may be the hottest fantasy fulfillment in years, but, for me, it was timid, repetitively anti-climatic, disconnected and frustrating.
At the very end of the novel, they do meet and have some moderately good skin-on-skin sex, but, by then, it was’t enough to rescue the novel for me. Instead, Annie remained weak and tragic in this entire mess and Dylan became more disrespectable, unscrupulous and unappealing. And a cliffhanger? Pass.

I felt like I understood and was fascinated with the lives of the characters in the trailer park and in fact would have enjoyed the story if it took place entirely there. I also enjoyed the secondary characters and wanted to know more about them.
However Annie was a bit of a mess. Although I understood her desire to carve out a place for herself and I enjoyed watching her self confidence grow as she figured out who exactly she was. My problem with Annie was that she had a lot of contradictions. She was naive and yet the author sometimes wrote her as a bit of a siren. She was shy and yet at times would act in a very bold way. Not to say that people don't have contradictions but I didn't really believe the more bold/siren actions when she made them.
I also had a little bit of an issue with the relationship between Dylan and Annie. Her sexual growth/awakening just wasn't all that interesting to me and I wasn't sure what exactly Dylan saw in Annie other than her inexperience. The relationship was only surface level and at the end of the book I just didn't feel like they really knew each other. I would like more of a real development other than sexual between them so that I could buy into the intimacy and feelings instead of feeling like a case of insta love/lust.
Of course I'm also not a big fan of a cliffhanger. I liked this book but it didn't inspire me to want to pick up the next one immediately to find out what happens between Dylan and Annie.
And then Part Two happened. I'm not going to give anything away so I'm being careful in how I word this. Some things are brought to light and Dylan just gets so. much. hotter. Anyone have a hose handy?! You'll need it to cool off. My kindle was on FIYAH. And poor Annie. Shew! But the kicker is how this book ends. Hold on to your seats folks, it's a crazy ride and you're going to love it. And Dylan. You'll love Dylan. Or at least I did. A lot... Don't miss this fantastic read!
I don't have any strong feelings for either, but since I own the paperback for "The Truth About Him," I'll give it a chance.
