About the Author
New York Times and USA Today bestselling author M. Leighton is a native of Ohio. She relocated to the warmer climates of the South, where she can be near the water all summer and miss the snow all winter. Possessed of an overactive imagination from early in her childhood, Michelle finally found an acceptable outlet for her fantastical visions: literary fiction. Having written over a dozen novels, these days Michelle enjoys letting her mind wander to more romantic settings with sexy Southern guys, much like the one she married and the ones you'll find in her latest books. When her thoughts aren't roaming in that direction, she'll be riding wild horses, skiing the slopes of Aspen or scuba diving with a hot rock star, all without leaving the cozy comfort of her office.

Nash Davenport (eldest twin to Cash), is paying the hardest for his fathers' traitorous mistakes. After his mother is murdered (and his father is accused & sentenced to prison), Nash disappears for seven years while his brother, Cash, tries to prove his father's innocence. Nash is staying hidden from the Russian Mafia due to information he carries of the real murderer. He lives among criminals, smugglers and animals of the lowest sort...being forced to give up his former bureaucratic dreams while living a criminals life...smuggling weapons to terrorists. He comes back to the land of the living a completely changed and hardened man. He's resentful and angry at everyone and at life in general. He's a bitter, enraged, frustrated man full of hate for everyone and everything....even Marissa.
Nash doesn't want to like Marissa much less be attracted to her. Nevertheless, he does find himself thinking of her constantly after their one night stand...and constantly berates himself over his mushy thoughts. He's so callous, hardened and rough and he wants to stay that way. He continually grooms his hate and lives only to see his promise to avenge his mothers death through. Nothing else matters. He has no room for "soft" or caring. Feeling guilt for his hardened, sarcastic nature is a nuisance...he has no room for those feelings. He's thoughtless...and broken.
..gawd I loved this second installment of this series. I adored Cash (in the first book) and love Nash just as much. He's so damaged with the unfair, crummy life he's been dealt. I admired Marissa and the huge challenges that lay ahead of her. Facing down her haughty, narrow-minded friends & standing up to her egotistical father; all the while fighting her attraction (and losing the battle) to Nash.. a man who makes it blatantly clear he has no room for her yet eventually comes to realize she is his saving grace.
Ms. Leighton has an unparalleled talent of propelling the reader into the midst of romantic adventure and mystery. In little time the reader is emotionally invested into the conundrum of the main characters. You feel their angst and frustration...the turmoil they're battling while trying not to fall in love...yet falling hard. The story never disintegrates or becomes disjointed. It's a captivating, consumingly delicious plot. Brava and Encore!
There were parts of the story that were predictable and parts that were just anti-climatic in my opinion - especially the ending. The New Orleans "surprise" was unappealing and unnecessary - it didn't have real purpose give the reactions to it.
I like the author very much. Met her in Vegas and she was a sweetheart, but this book was just un-relatable unfortunately.
In the first two books we all fell in love with Cash. How can you not??? The way he loves Olivia, and how he protects her. But NOW, we have Nash; all dark and mysterious. And Marissa. I love Marissa in his book. As a person she has completely evolved. I kinda wanted to just punch her in the face in the other books. What a stuck up snob. And the way she treated Olivia. She deserved what she got. Okay, NO she didn’t! LOL How mean of me to say. But she learned her lesson that’s for sure. Got a dose of reality. And then some…..
Now she’s been rescued and is left with the reality of the REAL Nash. A Nash she knows nothing about (or so she thinks). A Nash that is NOT quite so inviting, a Nash that is so closed off, and sad and just down right cold. And she is so torn. Marissa has never reacted to a man this way. Not even Cash.
Nash is no good for Marissa and he warns her.
You’ll probably get hurt.
Then you can’t say I didn’t warn you.
But sometimes you can’t stop fate from stepping in and taking over. Even though Nash is warning her off, he wants her. Thinking it can only just be something physical. Yeah right!!!!
This distraction is good for Marissa. She is so sick of her old life, with her rich friends. She’s trying to change and show everyone she is not so shallow, so yeah, why not indulge in some Nash and lose herself.
“I can make you forget everything else. I can make sure that you feel nothing but pleasure, that you can’t think past what I’m doing to your body.”
Oh Nash that’s so HOT, but dude, it’s not that easy. You’re playing with her heart and mind. And yes, you did play with her once… a long time before. WOW, and that totally blew my mind. New Orleans….WOW!!!!!!!!!! My mouth dropped…How could he???
“I’m done. This is too much for me. You warned me and I didn’t listen. That’s my own fault. The only thing I can do now is keep from making the same mistake again.”
OMG that crushed me….It crushed Marissa, and yep, it crushed Nash. That dude has feelings for Marissa. He loves her. But he doesn’t think he’s worthy of her. He’s a criminal, and being with her would ruin her career. Best to stay away…and leave…sail away...
Insert heart wrenching pain in my chest. Seriously, this was just hurtful. I cried for her, I couldn’t help myself.
And in between all of this, Nash and Cash are trying to get their plans together to take down those bastards that ruined their lives, killed their mother, and put their father behind bars. And Marissa plays a huge part in helping them. And what does Marissa get out of all of this, a heart broken. In all honestly, so does Nash.
“We just didn’t have enough time. And now we never will. I just thought…I had hoped…”
Yeah Marissa, we all thought…we all hoped. She’s killing me. I feel for her. WHY did you leave her Nash, you freakin coward! Alright, in Nash’s defense he’s a shell of a man. He doesn’t think he is any good for her. The last 7 years of his life he has spent on a barge, secluded from any normal people, indulging in a criminal lifestyle that he never wanted. He had a life at home, he was smart, had dreams. And they were taken away.
This book had me on a roller coaster the whole time with Nash and Cash and their mission to bring down the Russian’s, and the love that Nash and Marissa are waiting to explore.
In the end, I knew Nash would come through, because his love for Marissa is there and stronger than he thought.
“I’ve sailed all over the world trying to get away from you, trying to get away from what you make me feel. All I’ve found is that there’s no ocean big enough to drown out thoughts of you, no place far enough to escape your pull. You find me. You always find me. When I was lost at sea, you found me. When I was lost in life, you found me. You found me and you saved me.”
It is wonderful to see that Marissa came away from her abduction with a different view of herself and her life because it allowed her to become a real person with wanting to right her wrongs and completely turning her life around.
There is hope for the damaged!!!
