Now, many people who review books will point out the plot points so that readers can get a better understanding of the book so that they know what they are getting into before purchasing it. This is fine, and I do it myself in reviews. But with this book, I simply cannot because it will give away too much of the book and I really think readers will benefit more if they go into this one blind (or by just reading the synopsis). What I will say though is that it is told in 3 different point of views, and this allows the story to unfold before and after the death of one of the characters. Readers are able to gain a better understanding into the minds of the victim and those around her, and the author does a SUPERB job with it as it doesn’t get confusing at all. In fact, I think it helps the plot out even more being told this way. Next, the story is a little disturbing (but not in a horrific way where you are bombarded with to gore and blood like you see in horror novels). It is actually disturbing because readers get to know the victim while also understanding her death and what lead up to it. I guess for me, it’s kind of freaky to get to know a character like we do in this one, only to watch the slow downfall of them. FINALLY, this book is a bit twisty. Why? Because readers are going to think they know what happens when in actuality, they don’t. This is probably one of the greatest aspects of the book because the unknown is truly unknown.
Overall, this is a truly fantastic book and I highly recommend it to fellow readers. I know many of my friends/followers are mainly romance lovers, but I am telling you that this book is WORTH the money and the time to dive into even if this is not your typical genre. So please, give it a try if this review and/or synopsis intrigues you. I promise, you will NOTE be disappointed in this finely grafted masterpiece!
My advice is DON'T READ SYNOPSIS!! with their many spoilers. If you are reading this right now, just go and click on Buy.
I received an advanced copy of this book from NetGalley for review consideration.
I didn't really like most of the people in this story. Hattie - I just could not stand. She would use and push people under the bus to get what she wanted. She would always be looking for the next best thing. Peter - A total idiot, slime bucket. Did he really think Hattie would stay with him forever? She would trade him in as soon as something better came along. She was too young to be committed to Peter for her entire life. He was old enough to know that. The one person I disliked the most was Mary. Another selfish person. I understand why she returned home to help her mom, but to lie to Peter that she didn't want to return back to the city was wrong. I didn't understand why she stopped communicating with Peter in the first place. All because he didn't want to stay in a one horse town forever. She knew that when she married him. She was a very strange person. Tommy - A crazy psycho who got what he deserved. The only people I felt sorry for were Hattie's poor parents.
Even thou I didn't like the people, the book is worth reading.
