I do not base my faith on whether or not there is physical evidence to support it, as it would truly be shaky ground to stand on, especially in this day. On the other hand, it was Austin Farrar that said, "Though argument does not create conviction, lack of it destroys belief. What seems to be proved may not be embraced; but what no one shows the ability to defend is quickly abandoned. Rational argument does not create belief, but it maintains a climate in which belief may flourish." This book is a wonderful example of just such "rational argument" that at times is very convincing.
There is no doubt that there is power in evidence to advance the nurturing of faith.Read more ›
P.S. During the excavations of Jericho (1930-1936) Garstang found something so startling that a statement of what was found was prepared and signed by himself and two other members of the team. In reference to these findings Garstang says: "As to the main fact, then, there remains no doubt: the walls fell outwards so completely that the attackers would be able to clamber up and over their ruins into the city." I love my LORD. Of course He would knock the walls outward, just like He tore the forty-foot temple veil from top to bottom and made some of the planets spin backwards. He justs likes to keep athiests guessing.
Dr. Josh McDowell, at one point in time, was an atheist. He was very angry at Christians. This book started out as his attempt to disprove Christianity. As he did more and more research, the evidence against his argument overwhelmed him.
As a result he is now one of the finest men of God around, and a great speaker. Read this book if you haven't already.
