i needed something for extended walks/bike rides (8-10 miles) to help prevent chafing and to keep me comfortable and dry. these definitely do the trick. cotton briefs were making my walks miserable and to the point of being unbearable.
at first, looking at the $25 price tag for a pair of underwear, i was almost to the point of trying to live with the discomfort. thank goodness i went ahead and purchased these. it is unbelievable how much of a difference these make for my walks. btw.. i now walk/ride 10-12 miles at a time with no discomfort at all.
care for this item is almost too simple. i wash mine in the bathroom sink with a very small amount of detergent and hang dry for a few hours and they are ready to go again.
my advice - buy you a pair and you will not regret the price one bit.
UPDATE - after owning these garments for 5 months and after a good test run in the extreme heat and alot of hand washings, i recommend these underwear even more. they have held up great and the comfort is excellent. i initially bought 2 pair because of the price scare. i see them at $17.98(size large/ocean color) each with free shipping. keep an eye on the price as it fluctuates often. i am ordering 3 more pair today.
UPDATE 2 (7/1/14) - 4 years later and the Exofficio boxer briefs are still holding together very, very well. No fraying and just a little bit thinner. These underwear are the real deal. I now own 12 pairs and love them as much today as i did 4 years ago when i started wearing these
Are comfortable. He had a huge smile on his face when he put them on. He said the fabric is very soft, and it definitely is. It feels like those moisture wicking fabrics, or those water cooling towels, but softer.
It has a lot of room if you need it! He typically barely fits into regular boxer briefs, and while the support is nice, he ends up feeling uncomfortable by the end of the day and sweating is an issue.
These can still give support. He actually pulls the legs up a tad, which he said would normally be soooo uncomfortable in other underwear, but actually creates a pocket in these that is really supportive.
They really do wick moisture and therefore dry very fast. We haven't tested these on vacation yet, but I could absolutely see them coming in handy if you are backpacking or something for a long time because you can hand wash and dry quickly. They really boast about this on their tags also.
To point out how comfortable these are, he had the tag on inside the boxers but they were so comfortable that he didn't even notice. A big, cardboard tag... hahaha I laughed so hard when I saw it. He didn't even care he was cozy.
The size seems great, he is normally XL and it is possible that because of the pouch that he could have gotten away with a L, so we will try that for future pairs. Who knows, maybe all along he has gotten the wrong size because his package is just too big for the right size!
He immediately texted his friend (the one with 3 testicles who told him about these) and told him that they are, indeed, all he and the internet cracked them up to be.
We purposely got the ones that were cheapest, because they are a bit pricey. We will see how well they hold up, but if they are this great I think they would still be worth it. I would love to see packs of these at lower prices, sales, etc. That way we could stock up and get rid of the rest of his underwear that pale in comparison without spending a fortune. Highly suggest!
***Update*** the second picture is after the first day of wear. While he loved them, they wicked sweat away so he stayed dry and they were comfortable all day long, look at how much it pilled already!! That was with only one days wear :( If you wear slacks or don't work a job where you are active, these will probably not do that but we are very bummed after seeing that. I imagine that they won't last very long because of it. Not durable at all.
EDIT: I bought a size L, and it was a much better fit.
