i needed something for extended walks/bike rides (8-10 miles) to help prevent chafing and to keep me comfortable and dry. these definitely do the trick. cotton briefs were making my walks miserable and to the point of being unbearable.
at first, looking at the $25 price tag for a pair of underwear, i was almost to the point of trying to live with the discomfort. thank goodness i went ahead and purchased these. it is unbelievable how much of a difference these make for my walks. btw.. i now walk/ride 10-12 miles at a time with no discomfort at all.
care for this item is almost too simple. i wash mine in the bathroom sink with a very small amount of detergent and hang dry for a few hours and they are ready to go again.
my advice - buy you a pair and you will not regret the price one bit.
UPDATE - after owning these garments for 5 months and after a good test run in the extreme heat and alot of hand washings, i recommend these underwear even more. they have held up great and the comfort is excellent. i initially bought 2 pair because of the price scare. i see them at $17.98(size large/ocean color) each with free shipping. keep an eye on the price as it fluctuates often. i am ordering 3 more pair today.
UPDATE 2 (7/1/14) - 4 years later and the Exofficio boxer briefs are still holding together very, very well. No fraying and just a little bit thinner. These underwear are the real deal. I now own 12 pairs and love them as much today as i did 4 years ago when i started wearing these
They are highly durable, though after a few years the elastic waist band in my older pairs have started to get a bit tired. Hard to estimate, but they've probably seen several hundred wash cycles by now. Well worth the initial expense.
This Charcoal color shown on the site (blueish color on left of picture I wanted to match) looks more like their Charcoal Heather (the yuk greenish on right) -well really not even that color!. The Charcoal actually is no match to what I was sent. The box labels say Charcoal though! Not the blue Charcoal I wanted, but color is secondary.
Fit is somewhat larger than the first pair purchased elsewhere (my blue Charcoal on left), but not so much larger as to need to return. These names don't really mean much
Please "YES" if you find this was helpful
You really can just rinse them off when traveling if you want to conserve the amount of laundry you need to do (or avoid laundry altogether) on long trips. They hold up that well. My initial pair has been worn weekly for over 9 months, and you can't really tell at all. The craftsmanship appears to be fantastic.
For sports or activity, I would recommend ExOfficio's Give-N-Go Sports Mesh, though.
1. They have a thick tag in the back that is irritating. It's inexcusable to place a tag in a pair of underwear these days. Anyone can just print the information.
2. The seams are poorly sewn and are also irritating/abrasive.
3. The waistband is the same as the cheapest pair of cotton underwear in a 5-pack.
4. The cut and shaping is poor. I have never had a pair of underwear that I need to be pulling on and adjusting so much throughout the day. They just slip around a lot.
For this price, you should look into other brands like Tommy John or Duluth Trading Buck Naked underwear.
