no, it is not the thickest stainless steel. but it's thick enough. the handles are useful because, when full, this is a heavy pan!
the plastic lid works well - better than having to cover it with plastic wrap or foil.
it comes with a spatula and wire rack. i used the wire rack for cooling cookies and spatuala for removing cookies from the cookie sheet. they are strong enough for that. for the lasagna i used my own very sturdy spatula...
is this pan as good as the stainless steel ones that sell for 3 times the price? no. is it a good buy -- useful and adequate -- for the money paid? yes.
ps. cleaned up well with some steel wool action for the baked on cheese bits.
amazon has the best price... lowest i could find for this.
UPDATE: it's now june 2103 and I have used this pan dozens of times since I bought it a year and a half ago. lasagna, mac & cheese, and very large banana bread, pumpkin bread get baked in this. gives me enough to freeze. the pan cleans up so easily it still looks almost new. handles still firmly attached. no dents. the plastic lid is hard to get off when it's "locked on" but I deal with that...
I will post more details once the meal has been baked. But so far, just pulling it out of the box, it seems very well made, just as the picture indicates. Sometimes you buy stuff and it arrives, and the quality doesn't match the picture. Well this one does match the picture. Some people have mentioned the spatula welding is weak and it has broken--it seems of good quality to me. And it seems by other reviews, they will exchange/replace anything with crappy welds. This one is perfect though.
I am very pleased, so was my friend (and he is hard to please at times/aka picky). I would recommend the purchase if this is the pan you are looking for. The price totally holds up! :D
My friend baked lasagna and all turned out well. Handles held tight/welds were great--the only critique is the little rack that comes with it is pretty cheap and would do better for a cookie cooling rack. And it rusted right away. But other than that, the pan itself was wonderful and worth the purchase! :D
Luckily I was able to avoid dropping 8 pounds of burning hot food. It's ok but poorly made very thin and it was clear when the handle came off that it had never actually been welded.
What I HATE about this pan is that it is thin and flimsy! Don't put a turkey in this pan, the bottom will bow, Heck a lasagna made the pan bow down in the center. If you have something light in the pan it makes quite a bit of noise as it expands and contracts in the oven. I've used it twice and the bottom is no longer flat, it bows down.
