Another issue we ran across is that the nozzle broke off the second time we used it. So the nozzle is likely too flimsy for the power this washer provides. Fortunately Excell sent us a replacement after providing proof of purchase. Hopefully this one lasts longer.
Overall, a very powerful washer, just wish we didn't have to deal with the hassle of getting it started. Buyer beware.
The reason for 4 stars is three things that bother me. First, the hose is absolute garbage. It is as cheap as you can make it and only 25 feet long, whereas most other pressure washers come with a proper 50 foot hose. I suppose it will work, but Luckily, I was able to use my old hose and only had to change the inlet fitting to attach it. Expect to buy a longer hose for any serious pressure washing. Second, the wand is pretty damned short and your back will be sore as hell from the stooping and bending over you will have to do if you are over 5 and a half feet. This wand is almost a 8 inches shorter than my old wand, which was a little short for me as it was. Expect to buy an extension if you are going to do any tasks that will last longer than 20 minutes. Again, I swapped out the wand tube and all is good.
Lastly, and this one bugs me the most, the damned muffler placement. The muffler, which gets to about 1,000 degrees, is right next to the place on the pump where you attach the hoses. I burned the hell out of my wrist and instantly learned that valuable lesson. Who the heck designs a pressure washer with the super mega lava hot muffler mere inches away from where you attach and detach the hoses? Seriously? I am sure I am NOT the only one who has burned himself.
One benefit I see on this unit that my other pressure washer did not have and many new ones today still do not, is the flexible motor mounts. My last unit was bolted directly to the cart and when being used, "walked" all over the place from the vibration. I had to set it in the grass in order to keep it from vibrating all over the place. However, this unit here stays put as the flexible engine mounts absorb the vibration. Another plus I looked for in a pressure washer was a brass pump. This is a must on any pressure washer if you want it to last more than just a few years. Any non-brass pump will rust out in no time, and for me, this was a necessary requirement if I was to buy it.
Anyway, overall, pretty decent unit. You cannot beat the price (I paid $255 on Amazon with free shipping), and it does the job. The dollar value is the greatest plus in my opinion. If you want your own pressure washer and don't want to spend several hundred dollars or more, than this is for you. The price I paid is darn near half many other pressure washers with the same specs. To get a pressure washer with 3,100 psi and 2.8 gpm with a brass pump for under $300 is a great deal. Other pressure washers with comparable specs are quite a bit more money than this one and some almost double the price I paid for this unit. This pressure washer is great for around the house and it does what it is supposed to do. And even though it may not be a top name brand, Excell is not horrible either, and as long as you maintain it properly and take care of it, it will last a very long time.
Overall, well built, compact, decent quality, and has the features I was looking for in a pressure washer. This pressure washer is perfect for the guy who wants one for around the house clean up of side walks, driveways, porches and patios, etc., is of better than average quality, a terrific price (as long as it stays around the $255 I paid for it), and performance (3,100 PSI and 2.8 GPM). The best way to rate the performance of a pressure washer is to take the PSI and the GPM and multiply them. Therefore, if you take 3,100 time 2.8, it equals 8,680 cleaning units. Most people focus on the PSI, but from my research, the amount of water you move in a minute is more important. Looking at the "Cleaning Units" is a great way to compare the performance of one unit over another. For the money, the overall score on this unit is impressive. I have used this a few times already, and it works great.
I bought the Dewalt 18" surface cleaner as well, and together, I am cleaning my concrete surfaces in a third of the time over just the wand itself. The Dewalt surface cleaner required a higher performing pressure washer and would not work well with a smaller unit, and this pressure washer is able to handle it with no problems. I would buy this again in a heartbeat and recommend it to anyone looking for a consumer level pressure washer.
