Editorial Reviews

Review

"Jerri Lincoln has written a book giving several dozen exercises for EAAT students ranging from the simple to the complex. Designed to aid flexibility, balance, coordination and strength, the exercises also can be used as a warm-up and to facilitate trust between horse and rider.  Photos illustrate every exercise and pose."

I am a hippotherapy/therapeutic riding book junkie, so am delighted to add this resource to my collection. This book is a compilation of yoga like poses with clear directions on how to assume and hold them, breath, how many times to repeat movements and what the benefits are.
I work with very young children who would probably not understand the photographs, but therapists can use this book with older children to assist in explaining the poses and make a copy to practice a special pose at home. I envision children with motor planning impairments and decreased strength using these activities to increase motor skills and body awareness.Certainly, riders seeking to reduce pain will find this book helpful and the instructor can tailor these poses according to the individual's diagnosis or goals. My back feels better, just from looking at the photos!

This booklet was a waste of money. No discussions with any depth, merely examples of the most basic, generic excercises on horseback. "Why" is this excercise important ? What is the excercise intended to address ? I was very disappointed. It seems as if someone wandered around with a camera and wrote simple paragraphs about equine-facilitated therapy. There were no cross-references to peer-reviewed journals or any verification of the statements made. Sad. Save your money and go to your nearest PATH Center if you are interested in learning.

This was not at all what I expected. I was looking for something more comprehensive. This text is grossly oversimplified and I think if the font was reduced to an 11 or 12 the entire text would fit in a small brochure of about eight pages.

the seller was great. the book is mediocre, exercises were very simple and basic, some were reminiscent of exercises i did as a child in riding lessons for basic confidence and balance. i didn't see anything specifically to "therapy". I would not recommend this book

Very simple exercises are illustrated with clear photos. Mostly common sense ideas that did not add a lot of information over what I know about riding exercises but a good reminder of how to vary stretches and so forth.

This book is nothing more then typical yoga excercises on a stationary horse. The type face is huge to fill in the pages. In reality there is very little information illustrated with poor photos. Save your money!

Easy to read, pictures and clear explanations with each exercise. The only thing that would make it a tad better is if the pics were in color. Lots of good ideas for exercises!
