About the author

American Novelist. Screenwriter. Poet. I am a college graduate from SUNY Binghamton. I majored in linguistics and studied foreign languages such as Arabic, Hebrew and German. I also graduated with an Associate's in Liberal Arts and Sociology from Nassau Community College. Throughout my collegiate years, I've studied Afro-Caribbean, African American and English literature and once pursued to teach English in a foreign country.
It was during undergrad that I started to formulate ideas for novels and stories. And soon after I graduated from college, I begun the process of writing the Exhale Chronicles.
I've always written poetry since childhood though I kept it hidden in my diaries and away from the eyes of others. It was the summer of 2016 when I started writing Exhale that I found a true passion to become a professional writer and pursued it as a career in many aspects.

This raw and emotional story follows several characters through their senior year of high school. Gritty details including sex, drug use, alcohol, and occasional strong language focus on many of the realities of teenage life that do not always find their way into novels. Visceral descriptions paint vivid images in the reader’s mind as intense moments take place, enhancing the gripping nature of the narrative. Jane is a multifaceted individual who is doing her best to make the most of each day as she strives to complete her senior year.
Like the author herself, Jane adores writing poetry, and it is incorporated throughout this story. Often, emotions are more easily depicted through poetry than through traditional writing, and Jane capitalizes on this reality by channeling her varied thoughts and feelings into organized, emotion-filled stanzas. Interestingly, the chapter headers change within the story to reflect major moments in Jane’s life, and her approach to her unique situation adjusts over time, as well. Deep considerations for managing grief and loss are included within Jane’s story and give readers profound moments of reflection as the narrative progresses.
Though the novel requires an additional polish, the thoughts presented within it are compelling and important for young readers. The real, tangible emotions and activities of the characters in this story are paralleled in many youth who might discover this book, and seeing their realities in this novel can help connect them better to those realities. Intriguing in its design, this book shows promise in its overall intent and will give young adult readers helpful guidelines to manage challenges in their own lives.
