I choose this over the Sense because I have a bigger home with a lot of devices, there is NO way this thing will identify stuff, which many complained about. Plus you can't turn something on and identify it yourself, how stupid. So I choose this. Install easy with 1 hiccup , You must turn Bluetooth and LOCATION! don't know why it needs it but soon as I did it worked!! Thanks to the live online support, Thank guys!!

So right off the bat my electric water heat was sucked a lot of power, I don't have gas. So turned it down a bit and big improvement.

I can see on the fly what is sucking my power. Hope to compare it with the power company which I suspect has a crappy meter over a couple months.

You can select watts, dollars etc, and you can set kwh price...

Like the unit so far but!!
1)They promise to have a software fix so on a device such as the water heater instead of 2 clamps on each phase you only need 1!! In software will just double it. Now this would be great!! So how long will this take? Anyway that will free up sensors!! And who wants to check each phase in software for 1 device. FIX THIS SOON!!
2) Why not have web access? I would love to check this on my PC direct. I have to say this is the biggest complaint so far. I really hate cell phones for doing things PC's are for.. App is okay,.,, but PC would be best..

All this said, I have been researching these things for a year, and that Sense thing may look cool, and would have tried it, but what a rip off for something that is impossible to be accurate unless you live in a very small home with very few devices. I do think Emporia could have a better app like Sense though, its very basic. I would like an app or something to graph stuff and show the other stuff at a glance. These guys really could have a cool product. Hire someone to get this app better!! It does work but very basic.

Please improve the app, and please get us web access for PC.. This has the potential to be the best monitor on the market. I do have the 8 sensor version. Price is very fair. Fix this and solid 5 star!!

UPDATE!! They did fix the 1 sensor multiplier thing, so you can have say a water heater 2 phase and 1 sensor, you just double watts in settings. Thanks for the FIX!!! Now we just need web access or something from a PC!! Also it would be nice to see some kind of overlay of all devices and the total to compare in 1 visual step. The app is pretty basic, it does work. Just could be a bit better. Far as I'm concerned the hardware is fine. It does follow pretty close with my power company.

i recently bought an EV and switched to a time of use plan with my utility and wanted granular detail on power consumption on each circuit of my house. I didnt want to deal with a monthly subscription charge, and more importantly i wanted circuit isolated readings rather than machine learned assumptions.

with this product im able to monitor 8 120v / 4 240v circuits along with my main 240v feed. software works good and if youre a data junkie, you can export your data to CSV and swim in the data lake.

would highly recommend.

Best $99 Spent All Year, With Immediate Payback. Pro-tips below

Wow - I cant believe this only cost $99 (no subscription) and this includes 8 dedicated 50A circuit monitors, other solutions cost much more and only monitor your main.

Main vs Expansion Module
If you are debating between the $49 main only version vs the $99 monitor with expansion module, I'd recommend the expansion module as it makes tracking down energy use by item so much easier... The only reason to consider the main only version is if you have a really full panel (mine, see pic, is extremely full and it still all fit).

Savings
Within a day I found and eliminated 120 Watts of constant power usage I was not previously aware of. This will save about $90 per year of electric use and pay for the device in a year. I expect to eliminate at least another 200 Watts of daily use based on the insight the Emporia provides.

Setup
*Pro-Tips* don't put the cover back on your panel for a few days (assuming you can do that safely). You will likely determine that you want to change what you are monitoring after you see the initial use.

Also, the included paper instructions say you need to add two monitors on larger breakers like your AC or hotwater. They have since updated the app with the ability to add load multipliers and this is now unneeded (you just need one).

Wireless
You really do need to get the antenna outside of your breaker box... I had hoped I could avoid this since my Ubiquiti Access Point was 10 feet away it would work from inside the box, but it won't. *Pro tip* while it does need to be mounted externally, your panel likely has a free punch out that you can get the antenna into the void of your wall avoiding the unsightly antenna on the front of the panel.

3 Phase
I have a 3 phase panel and in this case you need to order another monitor probe for $20 to monitor your panel.

5/2020 Update: Still works great with regular vendor updates and improvements.

This system is amazing, installation was relatively easy. I had a set up issue which was handled most expeditiously, and expertly on their web site chat!
I love this thing, its pretty cool to be able to see what 8 branch circuits are using in kWh, and to see the whole house power usage in real time.
The only tool I needed was a screwdriver to open the panel and pop out a place to insert the antenna.
Took me about 20 min to physically install, then another 40 to select and clip Current Transformers on the branch circuits. It works very well.
I was able to install the app on both my iPhone and iPad and log into my account.
Looks like it would be easy to monitor several installations, even in different address locations with the one app and account.
Seems like the best value of household power monitoring systems that I have seen. I may buy a second system for a sub panel in another garage/shop building.

I was on the search for a great energy user meter and first started out with the "The Energy Detector", but it wasn't that good because you had to run a internet cable into the unit itself to have a good connection. so I stumbled across this Energy Monitor and read some reviews and thought lets give this a try. This absolutely stunted me, it works so great, the installation and setup to the wifi and app is super easy and works just flawless! plus the price is more then half cheaper then the competitors. Would definatley recoomend to others and would buy again !

Good Bang for the Buck!

I had poured over the various reviews and it came down to either a machine learning offering from "Sense" or "PWRview" (Generac) which use just two clamps on the mains or individual clamp circuit monitoring in addition to the two mains from either IotaWatt or this product from Emporia. In the end I went with the Emporia Vue based on the reviews and price point. My main issue with Sense and PWRView is how unreliable the "load" detection seem to be from person to person and the price was several times more than this. I really only needed 8 main loads to be monitored so the Vue just seemed like the right match to me.

I had "read" (so take with a grain of salt) the clamps were not as accurate as those from IotaWatt but so far based on what load I think a device should be using, it seems very accurate or suits my needs just fine. I have a smart meter so took note of the value and compared it to the Vue's main reading and they were dead on so at least I know consumption on the two mains is accurate.

I don't know if it's supported or not but I clamped all my Kitchen 20 amp circuits into one as I knew you could do that with the IotaWatt and so far it's working which is great since I just want to know how much all the Kitchen appliances are using rather than 3 clamps dedicated to that. The ability to clamp one leg on a 240V circuit (Hot water tank, heat pump, etc) and use the multiplier is also great and seems accurate.

Setup of the app was a breeze although I initially got my solar setup incorrectly as I wasn't sure if the house was pulling from the grid or not. The next day I realized there was no way the house was pulling the watts the app was saying so re-ran the initial setup and had to "invert" the main clamps and now it's matching up between my solar inverter app production numbers are in addition to what the house was using at the time.

So look no further than the Vue if you ask me. Solid production, excellent instructions and although I haven't used it yet, apparently customer service is top notch.

For the price, this system is great! I bought the expansion pack but haven’t connected the additional circuits yet. Seeing real time usage of the main circuit and being able to adjust appliances/switches and see it change usage live on the app is awesome. As soon as it’s installed you will be going through your house and turning off and on all things powered to see their draw, very cool and easy to validate usage without installing the expansions clamps, which I still plan to do.

One of the better purchases I’ve made in the last two years by far!

Ended up to buy 2 units (1 for main panel and one for sub). Would be great if we could add more than one extension kit. Interface quite basic compared to competition but it works just fine and it delivers what I needed. Before, I used one unit of a competitor and I finally gave up on it. Their marketing did a better job than Emporia but at the end I feel that I now have results for my money. If they keep improving their app, I think they will do very well. I did contact their service for questions and they were right on top of it.
