You get pregnant and expect a healthy pregnancy, then there’s the curve ball – this is that story.
Expectation is the third book of Holly’s that I have read, and her writing gets better with each outing.
Aiden Murphy: Doctor, useless bartender, and babysitter failure. He’s also a man who likes to spread himself widely among the ladies, very rarely going back more than once. We’ve gotten to know a little of Aiden in Holly’s novella, “Avow”, and while each book is a stand-a-lone, getting to know the wider family only enhances the enjoyment of this book.
Gray Fairfield: a self admitted library geek and introvert, and a long-time friend of Aiden’s sister Keeva. She’s recently landed herself her dream job amongst ancient manuscripts at Dublin Trinity College Library as a library historian, and is celebrating a night out with Keeva at Murphy’s pub. She’s decidedly influenced by the whiskey/beer combo she’s been drinking, and is completely swept off her feet by a sexy guy, deciding that even if guys like him don’t usually kiss girls like her, she’s gonna make the most of the opportunity.
Fast-forward 3 months, and Gray is pregnant. Contacting Keeva, she askes for a doctor who specialises in ‘female problems’, and meets her one night stand and baby daddy – Aiden Murphy. Not just any old doctor, but a leading gynaecologist and obstetrician, he’s gobsmacked at the irony of someone like himself getting caught out by the failure of something as simple as a condom.
He doesn’t cut her much slack at first, but soon decides that the Murphy’s are all in, and wants not just get the co-parent from her, but everything. Gray, however, has other ideas. Aiden didn’t make the best first impressions as an expectant father, and, she has the resources and the confidence to do it comfortably on her own. What he does do, is play the long game, gradually breaking down the walls she has guarding her heart: “I haven’t slept with anyone since the night you and I got together. You came around and messed with my perfect life and made it all clear to me... Someone had given you to me and my soul knew you were different, but my brain and my d!ck were having trouble letting go of their ideals.” Wow, romantic words followed by avowals of love. ‘Expectation’ is a great read. I only have one complaint, it suddenly wrapped the end up very quickly.
Read Holly’s dedication at the front and then enjoy her book. I’m really glad that Gray and Aiden got their HEA, because not everyone gets theirs in real-life. Thank you Holly, for the strength and bravery you showed in writing a book that is so personal to you. 4.5 Stars, Absolutely.
What happens when your new doctor ends up being the baby daddy??!! AND the brother of your BFF! Seriously, what are the odds of that?
Gray has made the move to Ireland all on her own after having had a rather cold upbringing by her distant, wealthy parents. She is definitely an introverted character but also has her moments where she exerts herself - don't think she doesn't have a backbone!
After allowing herself a one night fantasy with a hot guy who would definitely be normally out of her league she finds herself pregnant. Not good - especially when she doesn't know the father's last name or anything about him and she has just started a new job! Of course when she goes to the doctor - who is recommended by her BFF - she discovers that the father of her baby is much closer than she thinks... maybe uncomfortably so.
Aiden doesn't have the best reaction to the news of impending fatherhood and that sets the tone for the rest of the story. He has to fight to win his way back into Gray's good graces and prove that this baby AND a relationship with her is something that he really wants - REALLY!
Told in alternating POV's it follows the two of them through the pregnancy (which doesn't go quite as planned). It was funny in points, heartwarming and kinda realistic and believable but done in a good way.
I really ended up enjoying this book - it came as a recommended read. I wasn't sure at first but it drew me in and I was really rooting for Aiden and Gray to make a go of things.
I am happy to say that I have found a new author! Love when that happens!
It is a safe read (with a couple of exceptions as we find out that Aiden was a bit of a manwhore) but no cheating. Lovely HEA.
Would definitely like to hear Ashlyn's story and I am going to search out Brennan's book and read it as well.
Gray and Aiden are the last two people you'd expect to be together in her eyes. She's not stick thin or anything special... Aiden is sex on a stick and she can't resist him. When a night of fun turns into something more serious and brings them back together unexpectedly, its quite entertaining to watch it all unravel.
How would YOU feel if your boyfriend/baby daddy was your gynecologist? Heccccckkkk no!
Gray and Aiden obviously have a tremendous amount of work ahead of them if they want to make this relationship work. They face many obstacles, one of them being life threatening. That hit home for me because I suffered from something similar during my pregnancy.
Expectations is an easy and fun read but at the same time it tugs at your heartstrings and takes your breath away. The emotions hit me like a ton of bricks I wasn't expecting to feel.
"Everything would figure itself out, and there would be joy and there would be pain, but we would both figure out how to navigate through it."
Love the Murphy family and all the strong characteristics of every one of them! THIS is how a family should be!
