Chris Fagan and her husband became the first American married couple to ski without guide, resupply or other assistance to the South Pole. She has summited Denali, in Alaska; run 100-mile trail races through the mountains; canoed the hippo-laden Zambezi River, in Zimbabwe; and biked through remote Tanzania. Her adventurous spirit shines through in her work as a consultant, trainer, speaker, and writer. For over two decades, Chris and her company, SparkFire, have helped Fortune 500 companies develop innovative new products and services. Along the way, she’s trained hundreds of people in creative thinking processes. A popular keynote speaker, Chris consistently gains praise for her dynamic style and natural spark. Chris shares the highs, the lows, the challenges, the rewards, and the sometimes gut-wrenching decisions they had to make in the process of considering, planning and then actually surviving an unguided, unassisted and unsupported trek to the South Pole. It's inspiring and motivating even for those with no interest in extreme adventures (me) because, beyond the physical, Chris shares the mental and emotional side of things in a very intimate and personal way. You really feel the joy, the terror, the smiles through tears, and ultimately, the enlightenment. So while it's about their extreme adventure, it's also about family, friends and living your passion (whatever that passion may be). It makes you grateful...for life, for love and for a hot shower and a warm bed to sleep in...and for the sun going down at night!

It gave me a vicarious experience of Antarctica, a place I'll never go. Just enough detail about the weather, logistics, and physical challenges to make it very real. I felt like I'd gone on an adventure myself when I got home--I mean reached the end of the book.

I quickly read through the first half of the book, I couldn't put it down. Then, I had to slow down because I didn't want it to end. Chris writes with such clarity and honesty. It is such an epic story and just reading all of her thoughts before it began, during the quest and after the quest made me realize what an exceptional couple they are. The photos in the middle of the book are stunning! I highly recommend this book to anyone.
