Character development was slow at first and the various moral battles that go on are as edgy in the novel as they are in real life. Would recommend this novel to any students of the private military contractor community as a study of how they, and our own military, can be set up to take a big fall.
He is obviously an experienced military/covert operations guy with a vast knowledge of the inner workings of the clandestine world.
He has a truly in depth knowledge of the military and spook jargon/nomenclature almost to the detriment of the story in the 1st 3rd of the book. However, if you like Clancy or Flynn, stick with him as the story is "right up to the minute" with today's headlines and builds to a thrilling finish.. Characters are fleshed out nicely and yes, he leaves room for a sequel.. Hope to see a bunch more from Mr. Howell.
