This book follows the couple after their engagement at the end of The Boy Friend. But for those of you thinking it's just a brief epilogue. You're wrong. There is SO much more in this book and you won't want to miss it.
Told from alternating points of view, it's really wonderful how you are able to get both Dean and Cori's perspectives about the upcoming wedding and all the events surrounding it. Dean's family, their mutual friends and Cori's previously absent parents, make appearances throughout the book. I was incredibly happy to see their inclusion, as they all played such a critical role in how Dean and Cori's relationship developed. They are also wonderful characters.
Dean and Cori experience moments of both glee and panic when considering their impending nuptials. They worry about their futures and about whether things are happening too quickly for them. They deal with unexpected issues and figure out how to cope and compromise. And then they have the *hottest* make up sessions.
There was not one moment during this book when I wasn't overwhelmed with emotions. There were times when I was laughing hysterically. At some points I was cringing- not from the writing, of course, but due to certain events in the story. And then there were many points throughout the book when I was crying- in joy, in sadness and just because I was experiencing such an absolute glut of feelings.
If you loved The Boy Friend, you can not miss this follow-up. And if you haven't read The Boy Friend. Well, what are you waiting for?
Rated 5 Stars!
This book is Da Bomb! It’s a great follow up to The Boy Friend! There are plenty of chuckles, happiness and a few tears in this story. It is mostly told from Deans point of view (which I love). How often do we get to read books from the males perspective. Not often. This one is a slam dunk that is hit out of the ball park! Ha ha
I can’t say enough good things about Dean! He really has changed since getting Cori. (All of it in a good way! ) Seriously his internal dialogue is the best! I LOVE being in his head! He is funny, serious, has an great point of view and completely honest and his love for Cori is out of this world! I would LoVE to tell you some of my favorite parts....but I don’t want to spoil anything for you! But I promise...the more you read the better Dean gets!
Ok there are other people in this book other than Dean and Cori. I feel I should mention a few of them. His friends Luc and Cam make a couple great appearances. I enjoy their relationship with Dean. Each of their parents are around but Deans dad has some amazing advice about picking battles during wedding planning! I would think it could be used during other times of wedded bliss. Also the beginning of each chapter has some great sound advice! (If you are looking for some)
OMG Dean just keeps getting better and better the more I read! I almost just swooned! Really!? I’m not sure if that’s a thing but I was in awe of what he just did!!
( OK—Seriously I felt like this a couple times throughout the book because Dean is so awesome)
I like the many many different ways the author describes the color or Cori’s eyes. I think my fav is Dark-cinnamon....I don’t think I have ever heard that before. I wonder can I put that on my drivers license??
Mika Jolie is one of my favorite authors (basically a one-click chick) and she has outdone herself with this book! This lady is so talented! Even though it’s a novella it still elicited many emotions out of me. (I had chills more than once! ) The way she writes....it just speaks to your soul! Reading one of her books is so exciting but also sad. I want to read-read-read until I finish but on the other hand I don’t want to finish because then it’s over :( This will be a book that goes on my re-read shelf!
Thanks To Mika Jolie for introducing us to Dean and Cori!
Dean says this to Cori:
I love you more than there are stars in the sky and fish in the sea
This is like a super extended epilogue to The Boy Friend and I’m thinking Mika Jolie is one smart cookie. She could package this couple up in a new novella every holiday and readers would rush to find out how Dean and Cori are doing. I know I would!
It’s a quick read and I don’t want to give any spoilers away, and to say much at all would be to spoil it. While reading I was giddy and happy and felt a rush of emotions at the sheer joy of being a part of this couple and their journey. That’s how well written this little gem is. It’s a direct line into the thoughts and feelings, the actions and reactions of each of the characters without ever feeling bogged down or weighted with unnecessary information.
In case you haven’t figured it out yet…I LOVED THIS BOOK!
This is an honest review of an advanced copy provided by the author, but understand that I would’ve begged her for one if needed. I’m still not sure how I got so lucky as to have received one. I think it was a mistake…shh.
Safe – absolutely!!
Standalone – I think you could read this one without reading The Boy Friend, but why would you? Just read The Boy Friend, then silently thank me for directing you that way, then come back and read this one. I promise not to tell you “I told you so”. ;-)
