The inability of Nick to properly communicate with Kate after a absence of months is frankly somewhat difficult to understand nor relate to. When he does return he is a complete jerk, acting as if he can just continue where he left off.
Another incident that makes sense from a woman's perspective only is Kate's insistence on a heart to heart talk about Nick's feelings. His rambling on about his feelings is in complete contrast to his general behaviour up to that point. This scene does not gel in my mind.
There is another scenario that somehow got hanging in the air. When Dawn told Kate about a possible additional pair of kids that might be gifted as well, this sort of fizzles off and this thread was never picked up again, not even with the introduction of a healer keenly interested in helping such kids.
On the positive side there are many developments that are intriguing, suspenseful moments of danger and action. The plot remains convoluted and moving along briskly in unexpected directions in the many threads being woven in quite a matrix of possibilities. This far overshadows my irritation with the few improbabilities. This Gifted series is certainly proving to be greatly entertaining on many levels and is highly recommended. Enjoy.
I'm sure everyone suspects that Kate and her little family are being watched, but we don't find out until we get further into the story, just how closely she's being watched and from how many different directions. In this volume, we meet new people from new organizations, old friends and enemies, and then there's the return of Nick to the story. There are so many twists and turns that every time I thought I knew what was going on, it took me in a completely different direction. And no matter what is said to whom, everyone seems to have ulterior motives for every move. I empathize with Kate who just wants to lead a normal family life. Little does she know that one of the hugest dangers, in this second part of the series, will come from someone that everyone least expects.
I was simply amazed at how much the author's writing improved from one book to the next. The story continues to be fascinating and exciting. The danger and intrigue are palpable, and it is impossible to not be drawn in. The romance isn't limited, which makes it even more fun. The cliffhanger is annoying and perfect. I hope Ms Webster doesn't leave us hanging for long before giving us a finish to this trilogy. I, for one, am even more excited for the last part than I was for this one. I can't wait to see how the adventure continues.
Awsome book and series. Very well written and a great story line.
