Topeak's proprietary QuickTrack system makes it easy to mount compatible bags or baskets to a rear racksimply slide, and click. Line up the composite QuickTrack base with the channels on any Topeak rear rack, and slide forward until it clicks into place. Without tools or straps, your bag's now securely in place and ready to ride. To remove, you push the yellow release button and slide the bag or basket free.

I believe (but I am not certain) that the Explorer is the most basic, least expensive of the Topeak quick-release racks. Apparently, though, it holds any of the trunk racks and trunk rack/pannier combinations in Topeak's MTX line. It was a little more difficult to install than I had anticipated, as the adapter on my 1996 GT Outpost (which has no mounting bolts on the seat tube) did not allow for a quick interchange between my old rack and this new one. With a little creativity, I solved the problem in about fifteen minutes and the rack is very solid now.
Many owners of this rack and bag set complain of a "rattle" when the bike is moving and the bag is not fully loaded. Some have come up with homemade remedies. I've noticed the rattle, but it does not bother me. If you are into quiet rides, be prepared to tinker around with some shims or strips of duct tape to silence the noise.
Overall, I don't see any reason why anyone would buy this rack without the MTX trunk bag. There are many comparably-priced racks that are equally as solid and some that are notably larger. But if you are sold on the Topeak MTX bag and want to spend as little as possible on a rack, go for this one. IMPORTANT: Be sure to order the correct one, as they offer models for disc brakes and non-disc brakes!
This rack is sturdy and installation was easy. In hindsight, I would have purchased the Super Touring rack instead of the Explorer due to the overall shape (so if you're on the fence, get the Super Touring). That being said: I'm perfectly happy with this rack.
I also purchased the Topeak MTX Trunk Bag DXP Bicycle Trunk Bag with Rigid Molded Panels, which uses the proprietary mounting system, and my morning commute has never been easier. I used to leave the panniers on the bike in the morning, which meant carrying my clothes/shoes/etc. back and forth to the garage to pack the cycle each morning (or evening, if I felt like being prepared to just go in the morning), because screwing around with the panniers was something of a pain. Now I just take the whole bag in with me, and out with me the next morning. Securely mounting the bag takes less than 5 seconds and you just ride away. Without the bag, this rack is just a solid, well-built rack. With the bag, it's easily one of the best racks you can buy.
