5.0 out of 5 stars Third Time Is a Charm!!
By B. Sadler on March 19, 2015
Around June of 2014, I had just recovered from two minor injuries in my training - back pain and a chest strain earlier in the year. I'm the kind of person that wants to learn why an injury occurred and never have them happen again. I'm also very aware that I was never gonna be that guy in the weight room throwing around the biggest weight. Too small and not enough drive to pack on the pounds that's needed to be that kind of beast; however, through my training in crossfit I found that bodyweight training was the best fir for my body type and I LOVED IT. I don't exactly remember how I found the convict conditioning series but my internet sleuthing abilities are unparalleled and I was probably intrigued by the title. Make no mistake though- the series is not a gimmick. After reading the first book, I began the progressions and have achieved pistol squats, one arm push-ups and many other awesome bodyweight exercises that have packed muscle on my body. All that's great, right? That's not even the most important thing i learned from the convict conditioning series. The most important thing and the exercise that has helped improve my flexibility (i'm a stiff mess) and has helped prevent injury and why I owe my undying loyalty to Coach Wade is the Back Bridge. Now I'm not perfect at them, but I had never even heard of them until I read the convict conditioning book and I prolly never would have done them if they hadn't been presented the way he did in that book. Ok! Ok! Enough of the backstory...what about this book you say? Well Since last summer as I've begun my bodyweight journey I realized that Al Kavadlo and Danny Kavadlo who i watched religiously on youtube were all connected to Convict Conditioning. Imagine my joy at realizing that these three important fitness people who had provided me with inspiration and know how were all working together. Awesome.

I'm never one to sit back on my laurels and say enough is enough. All over the web I saw people-Al and Danny included-doing cool exposive movements: flips, muscle ups, explosive push-ups and pull-ups and being that I have a bit of rockstar showboat in me I wanted to learn these too. I've watched hundreds of videos and studied hundreds of peoples forms but I've rarely seen explosive movements broken down into progressions that are attainable like they are here in this book. I can tell you already Coach Wade has helped me realize that I was doing my explosive push-ups wrong (going down to far on the push-up and doing the worm) so now i know i need to correct these so that I can master these movements. Coach breaks downs the progressions: he explains the difference between power and strength and gives you a template for learning and mastering these eye catching, rock star showboat moves. He's clear, concise and explains his rationale and method for training very well.

I would recommend this book for anyone who has been looking to take their bodyweight training to the next level. I'm not necessarily sure it's great for beginners and Coach admits saying you need to have some prerequisite strength to even begin to think about these moves. Anyway, thanks for another great book. I plan on continuing to study and work on the progressions in this book until I've reached all the master steps!!! :)
