Editorial Reviews

Review

"Sports broadcaster Usereau details the best years of the Montreal Expos baseball team." --Reference & Research Book News

"I fell for the book.... [E]vokes memories of a time when the Expos fielded stars like Gary Carter, Andre Dawson and Tim Raines.... Expos fans can revel in the great stats and in-depth interview revelations." --Paul W. Bennett, The Chronicle Herald

From the Inside Flap

In the late 1970s and early 1980s, the Montreal Expos provided their fans with spectacular play produced by spectacular players. The team was able to reach the pinnacle of its lifetime popularity during that period. They were in fact even more popular than the beloved hockey-playing Canadiens in Montreal and the most popular sports team in Canada. The book depicts how the team reached that level of support from the whole country and also why they were not able to sustain that excellence.

Originally written in French, author Alain Usereau has published an English version of "L'Epoque Glorieuse des Expos," "The Expos in Their Prime." The seasons covered are 1977-1984. During this stretch, the Expos became Canada's team. Having very good players and winning records had the Expos, several times, drawing over two million fans and having over fifty thousand fans at some games. Contained are interviews with former Expos and details of each season. As the team's popularity grew, Blue Jays owners had Expos broadcasts blocked in Toronto. This displeased Expos fans living there. Great book.

Order arrived on time, well written. Good history of a baseball club that is no more but we still hope that they come back to Montreal one day soon.

I enjoyed learning about the history of the franchise. However, there are portions of the book that are not well written - run-on sentences, quotes that needed to be cleaned up, etc. Lots of cool facts and tidbits about the expos, but it did not flow as smoothly as I hoped.
