So I decided to install it on a Class 10 16GB SDHC card inserted in the Express Card adapter. I used Disk Utility to format the SDHC card properly, then directed the OS X installer to use that card as a boot disk. Installation went smoothly. Took all of about 20 minutes. Restarted my Mac, booting into Mountain Lion off the 16GB card! This card in this adapter is easily fast enough to serve as a boot disk. And I see no reason that it couldn't serve as a boot disk for Ubuntu, Red Hat, any flavor of Windows or any other Mac OS. Quite frankly, it's like having a little SSD in my laptop. If you have a MacBook Pro with an ExpressCard slot such as my Early 2011 17" MBP, you will probably be in luck with this card--even if you are running Mavericks. But you will have to download and install 3rd party drivers through an indirect method. Thanks to others who have shared, I will post the steps with links in a comment on this post. This is the best value USB 3.0 ExpressCard

This is a no frills card, but it works well. It fit snuggly in my Lenovo ThinkPad T410. It won't pull out if you unplug the USB cable. I tested that both USB ports can be operating at the same time.

I saw posts on gmyle /product_p/3100.htm website that drivers for Fresco Logic 100x and ASMedia 104x worked. I searched the Hardware ID from Device Manager and it matched the ASMedia 104x chipset. So I downloaded the latest drivers (v1.16.2) from station-drivers dot com /page/asmedia.htm and it is working fine. It appears in device manager as ASMedia XHCI Controller.

Pros:
Cheap
Works as advertised

Cons:
Very basic packaging and driver CD is useless.

I'm very satisfied with the purchase and would recommend it.

Ok with some reservations.....UPDATE 12/24/16

I was a bit disappointed in this, but I think it will work ok as far as speed goes. I picked up two of these for a dual purpose: 1) allow both of my aging laptops to have USB 3 speeds and 2) do a USB 3 speed hard drive to hard drive transfer utilizing the two ports.

The first purpose was fulfilled as I installed the card without problems in my Inspiron 1545 and Dell m1710 laptops. Testing data speeds seems to hover around 70-80 MB/s when using standard hard drives (I don't yet have SSDs as portable hard drives). I was hoping the speed would be a bit higher-- on my desktops, also recently updated with USB 3 cards, speeds average around 90-100 MB/s. My only guess is that these cards don't provide any power options whereas on my desktops, I had to plug in power from the PC power supply to each one. I will note that on Ubuntu, however, no drivers needed to be installed and speed tests shows around 90 MB/s, so it may be a Windows 7 issue as well. Anyway, I can live with the slightly slower speed on my laptops compared to desktop.

What I'm having a harder time with is utilizing both ports on this card to do USB 3 portable hard drive to hard drive transfers. That was my original intention for getting the cards in order to allow my laptops to do drive to drive back ups and file transfers, and to free up my desktops for normal uses. However, when I tried to use both ports to do the transfer with 2.5" portable USB 3 HD's, there wasn't enough power and one drive kept stalling and restarting. I was disappointed in this as I didn't think the tiny, portable drives would cause this issue. So it looks like I will not be able to use the card for the main purpose of portable drive to drive transfers. For the price, I guess I will keep them both as they will serve well when doing True Image backups to portable drives (at least I hope they will as I haven't yet tested this.... I always do TI back ups with the TI CD outside of Windows.... will report back if the card is failed to be recognized by TI).

Only one other issue I forgot to mention. On my Inspiron 1545, I have to be careful when pulling out the USB cable from the card, otherwise the card comes with it. I don't have this issue nearly as much on my Dell 1710. Just something to be aware of.

UPDATE 12/24/16: I'm reducing my original rating from 3 to 2 stars because one of the modules is now unresponsive (and confirmed that it's malfunctioned because I purchased two originally and when swapped out for the other, the other works). I've also had one external USB drive become corrupted because when pushing the USB plug into this thing too hard, it causes it to eject on this laptop (a Dell Inspiron 1545). I'll never buy another one of these, not this type or brand anyway.

Works great on 2011 MacBook Pro with OS X 10.8.4, and also OS X 10.9 (Mavericks)

My setup is:

- Early 2011 MacBook Pro
- OS X Mountain Lion 10.8.4 (see NOTE below)
- USB 3.0 driver from MultiBeast 5.5.4

This works great. It is very welcome to install this, connect a $25 Kingston USB3 card reader and have my SanDisk Extreme CF being read at 70 MB/s and written at 59 MB/s. Plus I can expect to connect USB 3 hard drives in the future and again avoid the considerable premium of a FireWire or Thunderbolt solution.

As others have noted:

- It will work once you reboot after installing the driver from MultiBeast
- If you do not hold the ExpressCard in while pulling out your USB cable, you will probably pull the card out. I can push it back in, but it is not recognized for me until next reboot.

NOTE: MultiBeast or Apple forums (can't remember which) indicate that the update to 10.8.5 will stop the GMYLE from working. Lucky I am slow at applying updates. MultiBeast is already available for Mavericks. I will test the GMYLE when booted off a Mavericks USB disk before the big upgrade.

UPDATE Nov 9, 2013: I have installed Mavericks 10.9 on an external drive, added the MultiBeast Mavericks 6.0.0 USB 3 driver and can confirm this card works with OS X Mavericks 10.9.

Driver for the card

This card now contains the ASMedia 104x chip. ASMedia 104x Drivers will make it work. Too bad the seller didn't include an instruction page since the mini CD had 6 different drivers on them and it was a trial and error process to figure out which one is the correct driver.
