Good single drive - caution if using on jbod: JMicron JMB362/JMB363 chip used
If you are using this on a single drive, you'll be happy - 5 stars for price, and that it works. It was plug and play. Single drive performance is excellent. Note that the Jmicron chip makes used of Command-based switching, which means bandwidth is lost if you are using it to talk to more than one drive (eg in an 4 or 5 bay external enclosure). If you are buying for jbod use, 3 star raiting... For that use, you should find an adapter capable of FIS (frame information structure) switching, which will let you get more bandwidth out of your sata link. I got this to plug in an eSATA external hard drive. the card was recognized by windows but the hard drive was not. I restart the computer and still nothing. I use the included driver CD. it is completely unintuitive because it just shows a list of driver and it is impossible to know which you need. I choose one at random and then the program freezes. I restart my computer and this time the external hardrive shows up and seems to be working and I try to transfer some files. After a few minutes the external drive just disapears as if it had been disconnected. This card is very poor quality and the software quality is even poorer and it may be the only thing that is keepimg the device from working properly. I do not believe this is worth the trouble and I returned the product.

I plugged this guy into my Thinkpad X220 and found it to work very well with both Windows 7 and Ubuntu 12.04. Unfortunately, it also managed to spike my idle power from 7.5W to 11.3W, slashing almost 3 hours off of my battery life. I might continue to use it on power, but I'll definitely need to yank it once I go mobile....and the fact that this is supposed to be a mobile computer, combined with the fact that I could only remove this card with my pliers, means that it'll probably find a new home in my box of discarded parts.

Fits perfect and looks like a factory port in a Thinkpad X201. I can't believe how good it looks. And it has great speed!
The description at amazon is vague. This has 1xEsata port and 1xsata port.
The esata works perfect. However, the sata is all most useless without a power plug.

This did not work for me. Very bad design to begin with, it cannot be extracted after you insert it except hooking it with a SATA cable. Plus it is not recognized by none of the OSes I tried: windows 7 or Linux. The installation of the drivers from the CD failed and it screwed up my PC, now when I start Internet Explored it pops up a dialog trying to install something. Very bad experience.

It is most likely my fault, but I cannot get the item to perform any kind of function. It is totally useless to me. It may work fine, but I cannot figure it out and the drivers are useless.

When looking for something to cover a missing spring loaded ExpressCard cover that was part of my laptop case, this adapter was the least expensive option. Though I have never used the device, Windows 7 promptly found and installed the drives for my new hardware. For anyone working on PCs, SATA ports are handy when working on a dead computer with a working power supply.
