This author has compiled some very stirring and profound testimonies. I have read and studied the different works within this book and find this to be an excellent source for the intellectual. There are two sides to every issue and the truth is often hard to find. But (and I quote from one of the authors in the book) as one author quoted Gothe "Life divided by reason leaves a remainder" and then he goes on to say... faith deals with that remainder! This book is affirming in every way!

Since I couldn't find a list of the scholars whose essays are contained in this book, I'm including that information here as well as a clip of what's on the dust jacket. Truman G. Madsen, Steven D. Bennion, Gerald N. Lund, Richard Lyman Bushman, Bruce C. Hafen, James W. Cannon, Robert L. Millet, Paul Alan Cox, Daniel H. Ludlow, Robert J. Matthews, Daniel C. Peterson, Hugh W. Nibley, Richard Lloyd Anderson, Stephen D. Ricks, Richard Neitzel Holzappel, Marilyn Arnold, C. Wilfred Griggs, Donald W. Parry, Richard Dillworth Rust, and John W. Welch. "Each of these LDS scholars bears testimony of the truthfulness of the gospel, based on his or her own experience. Some share insights into scriptures or gospel principles. Some explore the relationship between learning by study and learning by faith. Some describe in very personal ways the path they took to become 'a believer'."

This was a very interesting book that I enjoyed more than I expected. It took me years to actually bring myself to read it. I had told myself that I wasn't that interested in the testimonies of "scholars" because you don't need to be one to have a testimony of the gospel. Nonetheless, I picked it up recently and was not disappointed. I enjoyed the book because each testimony contributes something a bit different which in sum also helped me to build upon my own testimony and increase my desire to continue progressing. I found it very intriguing to think about how each of these individuals sought to fit the knowledge they gained from their field of study into their gospel knowledge and testimony. In doing this from a faithful perspective, they only added to their own testimonies. It wasn't a quick, easy read because it had a lot of ideas and thoughts that I wanted to process and think about. As a result, I read a few pages or a chapter at a time. There is still a chance that others will read it faster and get just as much out of it. Overall, I think there is something in here for everyone. There are testimonies from religious scholars as well as scientists. In addition, everything is presented from a standpoint of faith (appealing to members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints).

I really enjoyed the testimonies that are shared in this book. It was great to read about people who are really smart and still have a strong testimony. I highly recommend this book.
