- Up to 25 tagged readings
Small in Size, Big on Performance
Easy to Use, Easy to Carry
At just 3.8oz (110g), the EC500’s design allows for easy one-handed use. The included neckstrap conveniently ensures quick access to the device, particularly when taking measurements in the field. The LCD readout displays pH, temperature, salinity, conductivity, and TDS measurements.
The EC500 allows you to view data in the following units of measure, all at the touch of a button: pH, µS/cm, mS/cm, ppm, ppt, mg/L, g/L, °C, and °F.
Effective Reading Storage
The EC500’s Memory feature records and recalls 25 sequentially tagged readings, allowing you to know how your readings have changed over time.
Because it is intended to be used both indoors and out, the EC500 is built to IP57 specifications. This means that the EC500’s sensitive electronics are protected from dust as well as from immersion in water.

What I found was Reverse Osmosis took tap water from 1.7 ppm to .3 fluoride, Big Berkey went from 1.7 to .3 fluoride, and with my friends refrigerator filter in combo with the Reverse Osmosis got fluoride to 0.0!!
This is a great way to test fluoride without spending $200 a pop on scientific tests.
It's important to recalibrate the meter often though, as well as adding TISAB solution to the water that you're assessing for accurate results.
Nowhere does it tell you on Amazon.com or at the MFG's website that you also are required to purchase 1ppm fluoride solution in order to calibrate it. The TISAB tablets do NOT calibrate the meter. The 1ppm fluoride solution runs ~$60.00 for a 500ml bottle. So all together I would have ended up spending $203.25 for the meter PLUS $60.00 to calibrate it for a total of ~$270.00. I have prime so I didnt have to pay for shipping but had I not had prime, i guess i would have been another $10-$15.00 for shipping?
btw, the meter comes with ~ 20 TISAB tablets so you probably do not need to purchase anymore tablets unless you plan on testing a ton of water with it. I purchased the tablets @ $27.00 because I was unaware that some tablets came with the tester.
I guess I am not really willing to pay $270.00 to "verify" how good my RO system works.
The biggest hassle for me was getting the fluoride solution to calibrate the meter. I bought it from another website and it took 3 weeks to receive it after I placed my order. So check the lead time before you purchase the fluoride solution from a vendor. I see it's available on amazon, but I'd still check with the vendor about lead time.
The meter ships with a container of 25-50 reagent tablets, so you don't necessarily need to buy additional ones.
I found the user information in the box for calibrating the meter a little confusing. I went to the ExTech website and downloaded an updated manual and it was much clearer and easier to follow.
The first meter I received from Amazon was used and unusable. There was dried gunk all over the electrode. So I had to send it back and they sent me another one. I think this one may have been used/opened, too, but it was in much better condition.

Had no clue until I started to calibrate that I also have to buy 1ppm fluoride solution which cost $60+ cheapest price.
