There is cause for concern about excess microwaves leaking from ovens if the door hinges, latches, or seals are damaged. Sometimes, such damage isn’t readily apparent and leakage may be occurring without the users’ knowledge.

The EMF300 is designed specifically for measuring the high frequency radiation levels that are emitted from both household and commercial microwave ovens, making readings in the 0 to 1.999mW/cm2 measurement range. When readings are abnormally high (>1mW/cm²), an audible alarm sounds and an over-range indicator is displayed. To capture the high readings, the Peak Hold feature records the highs for reference.
When the EMF300 microwave identifies radiation leaking, it is often as a result of worn or broken elements on the microwave oven''s door. The major problems include, bent, worn or insecurely closed doors, cracks on hinges or seals, and dents or breaks in the door itself.
