Far better than I expected

This device has functioned perfectly for my Dell XPS 13 laptop as an external CD Drive. I have also dropped it a couple of times from chair height and it keeps on working. This unit is compact, durable, and functional, Nice plus, it's completely powered by the USB connection and requires no external power when hooked up to your computer. Perfect for the price.

Great disposable external DVD drive

I believe I used this device 2 or 3 times. It worked very well those 2 or three times. Then it stopped working and has not worked since. I have had it over 6 months and can not return it. Essentially I bought it load some programs on a laptop it did; I put it on the shelf in my office and there it sat. I am not a tech person but it seemed simple the first few times I used it. Pretty much plug n play, then plug no play, then nothing. I suppose you get what you pay for; I will buy another external dvd drive because I need one but I will not buy this product again. If your hope is a few uses then this item is perfect for you; if like me you hope it may last one year of light use then I would pay another 5 or ten bucs and get a different one.

Only issue is the software CD enclosed would not load. the files are named in Chinese characters and Windows could not install the program so you will need something else (Roxio etc.) in order to burn CDs. I had an older version from an older PC available and it installed to Win10 fine so it became a non-issue.

I have several mini-CDs and mini-DVDs, but the slim-line desktop monitor with built in CD/DVD Drive cannot play them. I searched everywhere for the adapters which I know were once plentiful. However, adapters -- while listed and shown in several places -- could not be ordered.
Improvised solution -- External DVD-ROM CD-RW Combo Drive Burner Writer. It takes both Standard and Mini CDs and DVDs. Problem solved with a great deal from Amazon.com, including super fast delivery.

I ordered two to accompany new lap tops. The first one- It burns cds and transfers on Windows 8.1and Vista. I have not tested a dvd. One works at the speed expected for a higher price.
The second one would not turn on ( I tried another computer, different cables, etc).
The drive struggles during use unless flat and gets stuck opening and closing. Treat it gently and hold upside down to get your cd out.
Overall, I wish I never purchased. Both came well packaged with cables and a mini disc driver installer

First off, this DVD player worked. So, it accomplishes the function for which you bought it. However, it is put together in a flemsy way. I'm not sure how long it will last. It didn't close flush and there appears to be s screw missing. If this breaks within one year, I'll have to reduce the rating. Check back with my status update.

My new Lap Top has no burner and our Desktop internal burner quit working. I decided to try this external burner/ writer and I'm very happy with it. It's light weight, easy to use, and does what it' supposed to do.

I highly recommend it. The price is also very reasonable.

Great option since my DVD player is not in explorer because of a new HDD install.
Idiots at HP always want to charge($259 for a program to tattoo it to my motherboard) for stuff you have already paid for in order to get it working with the new HDD or spend hours tattooing the old DVD drive to the new HDD;which both are pure BS,if you ask me!!! Screw HP,this is a nice work around to their BS. ;)

It will play DVD's and CD's.
And it will write CD's. So if you want to copy all your original CD's so they don't get damaged or lost in your car.
So, if you need to do that, this is a good solution for the price.

I learned the hard way its not a good idea to run these through a USB hub.
Plug this one in direct and move everthing else to the hub.
