Transfer speed - added a new transfer type called Super Speed or SS - 5 Gbit/s (electrically it is more similar to PCIe Gen2 than USB 2.0)
More bandwidth - instead of one-way communication, USB 3.0 uses two unidirectional data paths: one to receive data and the other to transmit
Power management - U0 through U3 link power management states are defined
Improved bus utilization - a new feature is added (using packets NRDY and ERDY) to let a device asynchronously notify the host of its readiness (no need of polling)
Support to rotating media - Bulk protocol is updated with a new feature called Stream Protocol that allows a large number of logical streams within an Endpoint.
USB 3.0 has transmission speeds of up to 5 Gbit/s, which is 10 times faster than USB 2.0 (480 Mbit/s). USB 3.0 significantly reduces the time required for data transmission, reduces power consumption, and is backwards compatible with USB 2.0.
Plug and play, compatible any 12.7mm laptop optical drive and some 2.5'' SATA HDD Caddy
1x USB 3.0 DVD drive enclosure with universal bezel(faceplate)
1x USB 3.0 cable

Okeba contacted me with 2 hours of posting the return request. They asked me about the problems and arranged for a replacement to be shipped right away. It arrived in a few days. (+1 Star)
After looking at the new drive the micro USB 3 cable seats deeper in and the connection on the old one may have been a small one-off defect. That said it looks like the new part is probably still surface mount only, so be gentle with it!
Overall this could be a really nice part. The [NOT INCLUDED] laptop optical drive slots into the portable bay, which adapts the internal SATA connector to a micro USB 3.0 connection. Cables are provided to go from USB 3.0 type A (the standard usb end) to Micro USB 3.0 or a round plug. The round plug may be used to supply power if you are hooking the drive to a device that has unpowered USB port. It also has other uses.. (SEE CONS). These cables are fairly short. There is a black eject tab on the back edge of the bottom, which if pressed firmly ejects the drive out. This bay uses standard tray loading laptop SATA optical drives.
Provided decent protection to the optical drive
Uses standard micro USB cables, not common yet but still replaceable
Matches aluminum body laptops without being one of those disk eating slot loaders.
After less than 3 days the micro usb port ripped off the board inside the case, rendering it useless. As I wanted the disk stuck inside back, I was able to use the usb to power plug cable supplied with the drive to at least get the disk unstuck. The drive and disk was unharmed, but the breakage was clearly the result of a poor connection with the main board.Read more ›
And the one linked works great!
I did have to sand off SOME of the opening along the sides to help the drive sit flush within the enclosure. NOT a big deal folks,...just something to consider so you don't feel you have to send it back because your drive wont sit perfect inside.
Anyways, after it was all set up,...thye computer recognizes it upon start up.
Now,..something i did notice,...and it may simply be a driver issue,......is from time to time,....it might lose connection. It does re-connect when I reboot the computer, but it MIGHT also be on account that I have lots going on with external connections and drives. So, may just be incompatibilty with everything I have hooked up. haven't yet gotten around to pinpoint the issue,...but again,...it's rare,....so,..it's not a major priority. It has NOT disconnected while I was using it.
If you need to change out drives several times you need to read this mod or fix instructions so you don't have the same problems I have.
When you insert your drive the connector isn't perfectly placed it will flex when you push on your drive to get it into place. I have a really simple fix for this, I took a piece of plastic and hot glued it against the back of the case and on top of the connector you can get a smaller piece of wood or plastic that fit's behind the connector and is glued in place this before the glue is solid put the drive back in do not glue very much of the top because the connector will need room to go into the drive. Just insert the drive so you can mark where you need to glue, You should only have to take the top cover off the case it is only held together by double sided tape don't pry the side's of the case with tools you should be able to take apart with fingers so you don't bend the case cover. If you need to you can also place a little hot glue under the chip (board) if needed.
The device doesn't get USB3.0 speed, I've tested this with usb2.0 hard drive, usb3.0 hard drive and usb2.0 dvd external case. The cd or dvd will be slow but placing a SSD hard drive in each case the dvd case's I used a hard drive to dvd/cd holder. test results this device will be the same speeds as usb2.0. so I plugged this USB3.0 device into a USB2.0 port it was just a little slower about a .40mb/s to .45mb/s This was tested with a SSD with the usb3.0 cable and power cable plugged in tested both with usb3.0 port and usb2.0 port 3 computer where tested and I even tested 5400rpm hard drive and 7200rpm hard drive.
The CD/DVD/Blu-ray you install will be the same speed if installed in a usb2.0 external case.
