I never had other equivalent, therefore I cannot compare.
I have had them for a few months now and I systematically use at least one of them when shooting on location.
The build is a little light, and I am not sure how long the tray locking mechanism will hold, but without abusing them so far so good.
I don't mind the need to thread the belt through the pouch - it may be a little awkward to remove you belt in public but I would rather that than having the batteries drop accidentally on hard floor.
I don't use the bolt to attach the pack under the camera or anywhere else - I use two strong rubber bands to attach them to the light stand when shooting the flash through a softbox or I have the pack attached to my belt or in my backpack - the cable is long enough for me.
Someone else was bemoaning the quality of the nylon pouch - I have no problem there, I think it looks nice enough and does the job very decently. I just make sure I attach it to my belt with the velcro on top so that if ever the snap button fails, the assembly will not be able to slip to the ground thanks to the cable being in the way.
I confirm that the 580Ex-II will not recharge from this source only - not a problem for me.
Lastly the picture shows two plugs at the end of the cable. Mine came with just one plug that matches both of my speedlights' socket, so this is not a problem for me.
I use them with eneloop and I have only good experience so far.

A year and a half later - still happy although I don't use them as much as I thought.
The other night I went to the school ballet, set in a big gymnasium with so many people sitting on the bleachers that noone could move around. The lighting conditions were very poor, with a mix of tungsten and various halogen lamps with spectrum all over the place, sure to ruin everyone's pictures taken without a flash - then the costumes were mostly reflective/shiny white and mat black, an interesting test for ETTL especially on fast moving targets.
So.
I just hung up a 580ExII set in manual 1/2 power 105mm with one of these battery packs on one end of the bleachers, a good 50 feet from the area where the kids evolved, and a Yongnuo 560II also set to manual 1/2 power 105mm with another power pack on the other end of the bleachers, high enough to clear all the heads, and I was able to pick full-frame dancers at ISO800 with an f/4 lens.
All in all about 350 frames with fresh batteries, although after an hour or so of shooting I started to get darker images (triggering before full recharge), single flash images (one flash had not recycled yet) and sometimes (oops) black images (a little shutter-happy I guess).
Result: I got a few very nice pictures from my kids and their friends dancing. This would not have been possible without the battery packs and I wanted to share that with whoever might be interested.

I was back to buy two more and I observe the price has more than doubled.
I am much less interested at this newer price, reason why I popped a star on my original rating.
Please feel free to ask questions in the comments, I make a point of answering them.
The design is identical to the CP-E4 in that it will take (8) AA batteries and holds them in a similar manner in a plastic tray. The design is straightforward and the quality of the battery compartment seems to be on par with the Canon unit. It has a similar padded case that you can keep it in while you shoot. I have used both units in very hot environments and have not had any issues with overheating.
In short, so far so good. However there are a couple small issues for me that I deducted one star for. First of all, there is NO velcro strap on the case like the Canon. Why?? This would have cost only a trivial amount of money. With the CP-E4 I use the velcro strap to secure the pack to a light stand when I use it with a speedlite off-camera. Since there is no velcro strap on this pack, I have to jerry-rig something up to keep it on the stand. I currently use a large carabiner to clip it to clip it on and this works just "ok", though I would far prefer the velcro strap.
Besides that, I find the clips and connections to be slightly lower quality than the Canon. The connection to the flash is very tight on my unit. Not a big deal, just realize it's going to take a little extra pressure to get it in there. Be careful when pulling it out too because you do NOT want to break anything. Additionally, I find the fit of the battery tray in the outer case a little less secure than the Canon unit, though perfectly sufficient for this price range. I use a piece of gaffer tape to hold the tray in, because like the Canon unit, the tray can pop out of place if it's hit just right. A 2" piece of tape over the end of the tray prevents this in both units.
Given the simplicity of this product, this company has done an admirable job of copying the Canon unit and delivering it at a lower price point. I'm willing to put up with minor quality concerns for the 70% reduction in price over the genuine CP-E4.

The feel of the unit itself as one would expect is not as solid as the Canon one, but that's not to say that this product is flimsy, far from it, it still has a solid feel that gives you the confidence that it is for purpose, and about a third of the price. It comes with a pouch that can be fitted to a belt or it can be mounted to the base of the camera via the supplied thumbscrew. The power connection itself fits and clicks into place as you'd expect the Canon one to do, a perfect fit with no danger of it falling out or coming loose. The unit itself has two red LED power indicators, one for each of the two power compartments inside of the unit, so effectively you can run it off either a set of 4 batteries or a set of 8 batteries.
When used with a Canon 550EX mounted on a 5D with a fresh set of Duracell batteries the recycling time was around 1 to 1.5 seconds depending on the flash output and as every wedding photographer appreciates the quicker your flash recycles the better.
So at the price you pay for this unit would I recommend it? You bet I would and at this price I'd recommend buying one for each of your flash units.
They have acceptable build quality and more importantly they perform at the same level as the Canon originals. It's a no brainer really.
The battery pack comes with a good quality vinyl case and an attachment spindle for mounting the pack to the bottom of your camera. Personally I either fit it to my trouser belt or put inside my jacket pocket. It fits just fine.
Recycle times are very fast with a full output selected the flash will recharge in about a second. Any setting below 1/2 power and the recycle is almost instantaneous.
A great product and a very viable alternative to Canons pay through the nose battery pack.
they can get a little warm with heavy use, but nothing major thus far.
If your considering a battery pack then this is about as good as the manufacturers own, especially as the batteries can be left loaded without them draining down.
Hope this helps
