Top customer reviews
I've noticed a lot of 1-star reviews of people saying that their battery just completely died. That's because they discharged the battery down to 0%. 0% in a lithium battery means complete death of the battery. That is why nearly all smartphones and such report 0% battery left, when in actuality, there's 20% charge left. This is so that the battery won't die.
You MUST keep in mind, that any lithium battery pack, regardless of how new it is, will DIE if you discharge it completely. Usually, devices have software that forces the device to shutdown if it gets too low. A device's battery meter that shows a 0% charge, actually means it has around 20% charge left. This is a reserve, because once that battery reaches 0%, it's dead.
Everyone has to keep this mind when using ANY battery out there. Keep it plugged in every now and then when you're not traveling. There should be enough reserve for a few days if you discharge the battery down to the LED's 0%. This has so much capacity, that I rarely had it go down to 1 green LED left. Lithium batteries last much longer if you keep it at a moderate charge while it's being stored. None of my laptop batteries last less than 5 years, because I always keep them charged (people usually change them out between 2-5 years).
I bought this recently, and it's the best external battery pack you can buy. I went through several days of researching reviews and specs of high-capacity batteries all over. Hands down, this is the BEST ONE. Buy it. Now.
When I first got this, I was utterly amazed at the size and weight. It's quite small for a battery pack that packs this much power, and weighs so little comparatively to others with similar outputs. It fits very nicely in the pocket of my laptop bag. I travel A LOT, so size and capacity are two things I need. This has both! How?! I can have my cake and eat it too!?!??!
The battery is reviewed to be about 90% efficient. That's unheard of for lithium-ion battery packs (which are roughly 60-70% efficient for decent packs). To put that to the test, I grabbed my iPad mini (4490mAh), iPhone 5 (1,440mAH), my buddy's Nokia Lumia 940 (3000mAh), and his iPad 2 (6944 mAh). That's 15,874 mAh total. All devices were at 0%. In reality, given an estimated avg 80% efficiency of these devices' and the reserve they have so they don't kill their batteries; it has to take approximately 12,700 mAh to fully recharge all these devices.
After a couple of hours of charging all of these consecutively from the 2A and 1A output charging ports; we were able to get all of them to 100%. What's funny, is that the LED progress bar still had two bars! Wow! I essentially used up about 70% of the rated 18,000mAh thus far.
So now I have about 5300mAh left over (or rather 3300mAh, if the ridiculous 90% efficiency rating is to be believed). Ok, so I leave it alone for a day, and discharge my iphone 5 to about 20% (roughly 1,000mAh to charge it back up). I was able to charge it back to 100%; AND charge my ipad mini from 60% to 100% (roughly 1,300mAh used).
That means, I used up ~15,000 mAh in this test. I still have one bar left, and the flashlight still works. In a typical battery pack, it should have been most definitely dead by now. I used to do RC hobby, and it was typical for 50-60% battery efficiencies (60% was a good figure for a battery). As I type, it's charging my iphone 5, and keeping it at 100% for the past hour or so (well, it was at 90%, and charged it to 100%; used about about maybe 200mAh? Not sure). It simply will not die! haha. By now, I've used around maybe 15,300 mAh (best guess). So far, it's commanding an 85% efficient rating, and it hasn't completely died yet. I now have no reason not to believe the 90% efficiency rating claimed by other reviewers. This product is simply astounding, and THE BEST portable battery pack in the market.
That's phenomenal. I think every other battery pack on Amazon is about 70% efficient; so if you're buying something that's 10,000mAh, you'll only see about 6000-7000mAh of actual charge. There's 20,000 mAh batteries you can buy (I believe Anker has one) on Amazon, but they're tested at around 70% efficiency, but it weights a lot more, and they're the size of tablets.
-Lightweight (13 oz) given the amount of power.
-Small given the amount of power.
-Excellent rubber finish
-Rather slick design, and can be propped upright, or laid flat. You actually have no idea how much appealing this simple "pro" is. It saved some deskspace, and looks cool haha.
-Excellent form factor. It fits very well in laptop bags and backpacks, without contributing much to space and weight.
-18,000 mAh with 90% efficiency! That's unreal!
-I wish it came with a micro-usb + lightning combo connector haha. I sold all my i-devices with the 30-pin connector, so it's of no use. Although, the 30-pin + mico-usb connector is ingenious. It may come in handy when an attractive lady on an airplane wants to charge her old i-device; in which case afterwards I'd brag on how my newer devices are better. She'll then counter by saying she's savvy with money with an efficient lifestyle; then say how Apple is just milking it by coming out with a new connector. Grr...
Simply put, in my opinion; this is THE BEST portable battery in the world. It's simply a very well thought-out, well-engineered, well-designed product. Extreme kudos to the engineers and designers of this products. It's available in both black and white too, but I like black :P (easier to keep clean). In terms of price/performance, and size/performance; there's simply nothing better. Period.
Limefuel tells you that the rated capacity isn't the actual capacity, but they won't tell you what the actual capacity is. That's misleading advertising.
I received one battery DOA - there was some screw or something rattling on the inside, which posed a potential fire hazard since lithium batteries can overheat and explode if short-circuited (e.g., from a metal object inside the battery bridging two traces or wires it shouldn't). Another battery *melted* where the charger connects. Two additional batteries stopped charging completely. Also, I had one of their older batteries with a higher capacity and a flashlight, but when it failed they replaced it with a 15% lower capacity battery that did not offer a flashlight.
Now a very minor caveat, which needs to be mentioned, and explained,, so that one can see the "big picture" and not be sidetracked by minutiae.
Huge capacity that crushes the competition by price and size. Bought it right before traveling from Virginia to Texas and was able to stay fully charged on my iPhone 6+. Love the cable that has the MicroUSB to charge the Limefuel and also a Lightning adapter for iPhone/iPad.
However, the batter itself doesn't seem to be able to charge the iPad Air. While using the iPad, no wifi on, just watching a movie with the battery plugged in, the iPad battery still drains, the Limefuel can't even hold the iPad battery steady. Since I wanted to be able to use it while on the plane/in use, this battery doesn't do the job. If you only need it to power a mobile phone, it should work fine, but for charging tablets, it only really works if the tablet is off and even then, it is very slow to charge.
