A few names thrown out: Michelle Bachmann, Boehner, Reagan, and a name I personally have not heard much of, Grover Norquist. How are all these names related? Some are history thrown in to elucidate his points, another is the butt of numerous very funny jokes, and the others are really portrayed in a light that is damning. Those who are damned are the damn lobbyists and their puppet master, Norquist. West goes into his points far better than I, and if I explain there wouldn't be a great point in checking the book out, right? The topic stretches from Norquist of yesterday all the way to his nefarious lobbyist plot of today, all in a very readable satirical style.
The style is biting, the jokes are a plenty, which I especially appreciate. So if you are a solemn type when it comes to politics and you'd rather go watch "Middle America" for your laughs, you will probably not find much to chuckle at here. Although, West's voice is some what Populist and that is beginning to be a surprising source of laughter for ordinary Americans.
I often have trouble recommending a book to people who's politics it will greatly offend, but here I believe all should read this short book on a topic that is immediate in our lives. Those who will be offended are anyone who has a Tea-Party affiliation or voted for McCain/Palin way back. Still, a funny and smart read that will either shed more information on our current situation or reduce you to a fuming mess. But at least you read something outside your typical boundary.
Recommended with 5 stars.
Yes, it informs in a humorous way, sometimes at the expense of a particular political party, but hey, if you can't laugh at yourself, who can you laugh at!
It is entertainment in it's purest form. I wish it were longer, but that is really the only complaint I have about it. If you're laughing at the absurdity of our Government, and I think everyone is, then you definitely need to pick up this book! Cheaper than a movie, more entertaining, and if you're not careful, you might learn something too!
Buy a copy and enjoy some cheeky and informative political humor.
