To study and pass the test, I used hamtestonline dot com. I passed the Technician and the General in one sitting, and worked a month (ish) and passed the Extra. The Extra I got 47 of 50 right. Total study time for all 3 was 65 hours and change (one of the benefits of HTOL). Cost of membership is about the cost of one ARRL manual (each). Adaptive learning, simulated tests, focus study areas etc. Free to try. And I have NO affiliation with HTOL.
This manual does the trick with the spiral bound version making it ergonomically easier to go through the material whether
at your computer and reclining in a chair.
But this manual is not only good for students, and common reference material for student/instructors in conducting classes, but a great refresher for for those Extra old timers such as myself (30+ years an Extra.) IMO, it also provides a common platform of dialogue across the generations of Hams
between those of the maker/hacker background and old timers such as myself,
this time I went for the spiral-bound version, which I highly recommend. With a couple of months of
study I'll have my Amateur Extra Class license.
After that, I plan to force myself to learn Morse code. I've tried learning "code" a few times over the
past 30 years, but now I think its time to get serious.
Why the 5 stars ?
I bought the Kindle version and it works great for me on my iPad and PC. I saw some other comments about the Kindle version being difficult to use on an iPad / iPhone. I'm not having a problem. I haven't tried it on my iPhone 6s.
