Very prompt shipping!! Nice, mild scent. This seems to work great some people and I've seen it recommended by very reputable makers of waxed canvas products, but it's not for every fabric blend and takes a little practice to get the application smooth and even. It is probably more appropriate for all cotton canvas fabrics rather than cotton/poly canvas blends (what I used it on). Also, I would be cautious about applying the bar to any light colored fabrics (the fabric will take on a yellowish hue and it will be hard to mask unevenly applied strokes). To ensure a more even, uniform coverage, try applying wax bar to large fabric pieces over a smooth, stable wood surface and use even force when rubbing wax into fabric. It will be difficult to smooth out uneven, heavy strokes once they are present. It is also worth noting that heavier coats will take longer to cure and will end up being tackier at the end. If you are applying to a fresh, never-waxed fabric, it is better to use lighter strokes and a less heavy coat and then, after curing, test for water repellency (beading). If needed, you can re-apply more wax* (be sure to allow fabric to dry completely before reapplying and then repeat the process of wax, cure, test). Additionally, weather/temperature will have some effect on the application. If you are applying to a fabric at above room temperature conditions, I would recommend removing the printed label from the bar and using a cloth or plain parchment paper to hold over the bar instead, otherwise, the dye from the wrapper will mix with the warmed wax on your hand and may make its way onto your fabric (unfortunately, I made that mistake when applying to a light tan canvas).

Getting the application right takes a little practice.

I've tried Filson wax, and even wax direct from Halley Stevenson's, but this has so far been the best. I bought the XL bar and waxed one jacket from scratch entirely (even with a hood), and touched up the shoulders, arms, and pocket flaps of another jacket which was losing its wax finish. I still have about 2 in. cubed left! I can't praise this enough for the look of the jackets, and how effectively waterproof they are. I used extra wax on the shoulders, etc., so they got a white film of wax after some use, but I brushed it off with a shoe brush, and it's looked great ever since! I read some reviews that commented on the scent, but I waxed my jackets in my living room, without thinking twice about it. I think the scent is pleasant (lemony, beeswaxy, piney, etc.), and definitely not overpowering--right now it's hardly noticeable. And it only took me a little over an hour to wax both jackets. I was halfway through 'The Dark Knight' when I finished.

I'm very happy to praise this product because I am very happy that I bought it. I just ordered some leather salve too, and I hope it's as nice as the fabric wax!

This product is perfect for refreshing waterproofing on cotton or cotton blends. Easy to apply and no objectionable odors. Just warm garment wi a hair dryer, apply otter wax, and warm again with hair dryer. Let hang overbite and brush off excess. Couldn't be easier or more effective.

I bought the larger bar to completely waterproof a cotton coat. It took about half the bar, so I have plenty left over for touch ups.

This product will slightly darken fabric, like most waterproofing agents. Just a fact of life.

I like this product a lot and will use it again.

Definitely now a big fan of Otter Wax products.

I got a bar of this for my wife for some vintage canvas military bags she has that have been made in to bicycle panniers. We get some heavy monsoon rains in the summer time here, so they needed to be water-"proof" as much as possible to keep her stuff dry while riding.

We try to live without chemicals whenever possible and try to avoid using petroleum based products, so I gave this a try.

It worked wonderfully, though you do need to be a bit patient. It takes some time to apply on a large piece. It would be much faster on something like canvas shoes.

Feel - the bar is heavy for its size, and is just slightly tacky to the touch. As you begin to apply it, you'll find that the fabric begins to take on a bit of that tack, though this will undoubtedly lessen as the product ages on the fabric.

Smell - the smell is very inoffensive, doesn't smell like much, just slightly herbal. Definitely a far cry from the dizzying smell of some water proofing products, and there is no need to worry about using this in a "well-ventilated" area.

Look - as you apply this product, you will find that it indeed changes the look of the fabric somewhat. As always, test on a spot you can hide easily. We liked the look it gave to the canvas bags. They are just slightly more "distressed" looking now, but they are not really any darker.

Function - it has been tested in the rain, and I can tell you it works!

Doing both bags took about 1/2 of the bar. Which is pretty good in my book.

I will be buying other Otter products to try now, such as their leather care. Thanks!
