I just received my bottle of amla from Advanced Physician Formulas and was appalled to see that it contains magnesium stearate, a cheap additive used extensively now by many supplement companies. Perhaps the creator of this product, "nutrition expert" Dr. Sahelian, is not aware of the extensive research and findings on magnesium stearate and that it has been shown to suppress T cells--your natural killer cells--which are a key component of your immune system. Another issue that has been raised in relation to magnesium stearate is the fact that the stearate is commonly sourced from hydrogenated oils such as cottonseed oil. This crop is oftentimes genetically engineered, but even when it's not, cottonseed oil tends to have very high levels of pesticide residues. According to that study, stearic acid causes the collapse of cell membrane integrity--an effect that was found to be time and dose dependent--which, ultimately, can destroy cell function. Magnesium stearate is used as a "flow agent" whose sole purpose is to keep ingredients from sticking to equipment during mixing and compression. It makes manufacturing faster and easier, but it's not impossible to produce the final product without it. Not using it simply adds to manufacturing costs. In-other-words, it's cheaper for the company to use it. This product also contains cellulose, one of the cheapest fillers on the planet, that is now also being added to countless numbers of supplements. On the label next to the word cellulose, in parentheses, is the definition...(plant fiber). To the average uninformed consumer that sounds like a good thing. Of course they would never print in parentheses what cellulose really is...(wood pulp). It is unconscionable how supplement manufacturers make millions by preying on the ignorance of the masses.Read more ›

I ordered Amla Extract (Amalaki Indian Gooseberry) for cholesterol and instead I get Advance Physician Foraulas Amla 400 mgmade with unpronounceable chemical names saying it is a high potency Vitamin C .I don't have a cold, I have high cholesterol.
If the gooseberry supplement is not available, I would have preferred the choices of picking another product. Now I have to pay shipping to return a product I did not want.

So far this product has helped me to think more clearly and be more alert and focused. I am 63 and I have noticed that my mind is not what it used to be. On Dr. OZ, Deepak Chopra recommended this supplement. I have read many of his books and went to his seminar in San Francisco many years ago; so I decided to try this. Give it a try.
