Okay to start with this is the SB1600 which means it is 1600 lumens on the high setting. This is bright enough to light the path for a very long distance. I personally picked this up for a friend of mine that goes to Bingo and is in a mobile chair. He lives about 4 blocks from the Bingo parlor and drives his scooter to there. Now in my state they have to have a head light and a tail light to be able to go on the road in the bike path or side walks. Well this is a very bright light and great for his safety for visibility and makes it very easy to see any pot holes he may encounter on the way home in the dark.
Now this light has a few ways it can be mounted. It has a strap you can put around the bar and then mount the light on top of it with one of the rubber O-ring. You can use the light base directly with one of the rubber O-ring. I mounted his with regular worm-gear clamps for a very strong attachment. Next there is the battery pack to attach. This is designed to go around a bar in the same way as the light. This has 2 rubber straps that anchor. Once you have the light and battery in place you can tie the lines in place so they do not get in the way.
Now the battery pack is pretty cool. This has a plug for powering the light and charging the battery. To charge the battery you plug in the 110 adapter into the wall and then into the battery pack socket. To power the light you put the cord from the light to the battery and it will have power. The battery once it is fully charged will work for about 1 1/2 hours on the brightest setting and over 2 hours on the lower setting. It does take a few hours for the battery pack to get fully charged.
This has 3 settings to choose from when you have it powered up. The first click on the back will put it on the highest settings. This is the 1600 lumens setting. If you press the button a second time it will place the light into the lower mode. Pressing the button one more time will start the light in strobe mode. Clicking it one last time will turn the light off.
If you are looking for a mountable light that is very bright this one will most certainly get the job done. It is very bright at 1600 Lumens, easy to mount, 3 different light modes, has a rechargeable battery pack, and decent battery life for the brightness of this light. I would like to thank Stupidbright.com and affiliates for sending me this light to try out and share my opinion.
Disclosure of Material Connection: I received a sample for free in the hope that I would mention it on my blog. Regardless, I only recommend products or services I tried personally and believe will be good for my readers. No other form of compensation was received. My only two complaints is when it starts getting dark, I can't use the strobe pointing downward about 5-10 feet in front of me as it gives me a headache. Also if you hit a bump, it sometimes points down.
Make sure that after every ride you unplug/charge it. If you don't unplug it from the light, the on/off button on the unit which is backlit will eventually use up the battery.
Easy to use 3 modes default: High/Low/Strobe
5 modes with holding down the button: Very Bright/Bright/Medium/Strobe/SOS
Hasn't scratched my steering stem
Long Battery Life (2-3 hours on high / 5-6 on medium)
Lithium Ion Battery
Recommendations for improvement:
I think the wire from the battery should be the same length of wire that comes from the light portion about 6~8". I mounted my battery on the handle bar steering stem and have extra wire that I need to wrap it. It would be nice if the length was shorter for the battery so you have different mounting options available (short and long). Those mounting their battery to the seat post as I have done in the past with my mountain bike, should have an extension wire provided in the package to be able to extend it if you choose to do so.
There isn't a way to mount this using zip-ties which would make it more secure and difficult to remove.
If you're thinking about this light vs. another one don't. This one is the BEST! It's better than dealing with disposable batteries and I think the brightest you can get! The bonus head strap and the rear tail light which I mounted to my helmet were an added bonus.
So it comes in two pieces, the light and the battery pack. The cord to the battery pack is long enough to mount it far back on the frame.
Once plugged in there is a green indicator light press button so you can easily find the light switch in the dark. The light is amazingly bright. I mean it is REALLY bright. The light has three options, solid bright light, a dimmable version and the last is a slower version of a strobe, I mean the strobe is not super slow but it’s not rapid like say a flashlight strobe. I really like this light, it was easy to mount and easy to use and feels very quality.
I did receive this at a discount in exchange for my honest review. I would totally recommend this to anyone looking for a bike light as it basically covers all the features you will be looking for!
