About the Author

Daniel N. Steinberg has taught at Case Western Reserve University, Oberlin College, and John Carroll University where he introduced courses in Java^™, Design Patterns, and XP. He is the director of Java Offerings at Dim Sum Thinking. A developer, trainer, and consultant, he has been teaching and writing about Java since 1996. Daniel has covered Java on the Macintosh^® for the O'Reilly Network's^™ MacDevCenter and for JavaWorld magazine. In addition to contributing to four previous computer science books, Daniel has also written articles and tutorials for the developer sites at Sun, IBM, BEA, and Apple.

Daniel W. Palmer is an associate professor at John Carroll University where he has been teaching Software Engineering and Computer Science for eight years. He worked at NASA as a software engineer on many satellite missions including as project leader for Cosmic Background Explorer (COBE) satellite telemetry software development at Goddard Space Flight Center. Currently, he is the director of the Swarm Research Laboratory at John Carroll University, investigating swarm intelligence and emergent behavior.

I thought this book was for professionals that want to improve their software development practices, but it mainly intends to support academic teaching, and it supposes that you know Java. Unfortunately, that's not my case.

I ordered this book over a week ago (August 23) and as of today (August 31) is still has not been shipped. Furthermore, contacting this seller has not been possible because all attempts result in an auto-response that their inbox is full.

I will consider updating this if/when the seller ever ships my book, but until then I'm in a bind. My class is now starting and I need to start reading this book, but I can't yet cancel this order through Amazon because the full duration has not been reached, and so if I order this from someone else and then this seller does miraculously ship the book as well, I will end up paying double and have to turn around and resell one, possible taking a loss and incurring multiple shipping charges.

I've ordered many items from Amazon.com before, and this is the first unresponsive seller that I have come across. I would not do business with them again.

The front and back of the book is correct but the content is totally wrong. On the second page the author is suddenly not Daniel H. Steinberg and Daniel W. Palmer, as the front says, but Patricia A. Edwards??! And the book about Children's Literacy Development.

This is an incredibly intuitive book for understanding this incredibly useful and innovative software design approach. I especially liked the hands-on examples throughout the book, including the reference to the GIPF project! :)

No doubt that the authors did an amazing job when compiling this book. It is very suitable for beginners in XP and more advanced XPers will find the book a great study tool.

THIS IS A SMART BOOK. MR.STEINBURG AND MR.PALMER have done a good JOB syergizing the various aspectects of computatating using XP. I like the overview in chapters 1 and 2. The books later chapter are also delicous to read, because they have swarming appproches.
