I have religiously followed the Thursdays with Amanda posts over at Chip MacGregor's blog, absorbing the awesome advice that Amanda is so annoyingly full of. So when I saw that she'd written an e-book about marketing, I bought it as soon as I could. And I'm very glad I did.

Amanda Luedeke's "The Extroverted Writer" is a great marketing tool for authors. She gives platform-building advice about everything from Facebook and Pinterest, to blogs and giveaways--and she does it in concise, easy-to-understand paragraphs that are oftentimes as humorous as they are insightful. This is a great overview of marketing and, unlike most books on building a platform, it doesn't just tell you the things you should be doing. It shows you how to do those things. And that makes it an amazing tool for newbie writers and experienced authors alike. Five stars.

In the interest of fairness, Amanda Luedeke is my agent and she's a good one. She's given me a lot of advice in my career about how to reach out to readers and do the dreaded marketing. Now I have all of her advice in one condensed form (even if I did hear her voice talking to me while I read the book, LOL!). But in all seriousness, Amanda is excellent when it comes to on-line marketing for authors. A lot of books claim to give advice to authors, but usually, those turn into cheerleading books, where the author simply says, "You can do it!" and don't give any solid, actionable advice. Amanda is different, especially given the fact that she tells you upfront that you can't do it all and shouldn't try. This is a great, fast read that will leave you empowered with some do-able ideas. Highly recommended!

Marketing and platform are two scary words for an author, often regarded as vague shadowy beasts, rarely clearly defined. In The Extroverted Writer, Amanda Luedeke shreds the layer of myths with a clear definition and step by step instructions for hunting down the ever elusive platform. She discusses methods for utilizing social media such as facebook, twitter, blogging, goodreads, etc. Amanda offers advice in such a clear, concise, and witty way, that I came away with a doable list, encouraged rather than discouraged.

If you're struggling to figure out just what platform is, or running ragged trying to use social media with little or no results, or simply trying to reach out to your readers and fans, then I highly recommend this book.

This book is an excellent resource for writers. It's fast, easy to read, and fun! Building a platform can be extremely overwhelming, but Amanda's fresh, humorous perspective provides an entertaining (and reassuring) road map on how to succeed at it. She breaks down everything from Facebook and Twitter to book giveaways and blogs. Amanda has a real heart and passion for writers, and she goes the extra mile to guide and equip them with everything they need to know about platform. Writers will see their platforms explode after applying the tips and strategies found in this book. A must-read!

I appreciated Ms. Luedeke's candor it has a ring of sincerity and honesty to it. Written by a writer for writers. I am a little jaded as I've been working on building that word we dare not say "Platform" for a couple of years now and I thought this book may not hold any new ideas for me. I am glad to say that I was wrong on many counts. If you are just starting out as a writer or you are further along in building your own platform this book is for you. Not only did it refresh my mind in the marketing area it gave me new ideas and challenges. All in all I found the book to be encouraging and I think it is a must have for any author because it offers sage advice for all young and old, indie or trad. I will be recommending this to all the authors I come across who ask me; How do I grow my Platform?

Even though this book was published in 2013, I found the information to be great STILL! This still surprised me – a pleasant surprise! I have put more detailed comments on this book in "Goodreads.com". I do disagree with a few of the methods in the book, and his preference, but only due to how the Internet has changed since 2013. On page 61 she talks about "street teams" – which I've never heard of before. I'm still a little confused on those; however, the idea of using this feature to market my books is extremely fascinating. I want to know more. Additionally, on page 72 she talks about creating holiday wish lists. Again I found that topic to be extremely fascinating. So much so I want to institute it into my marketing plans. Thank you, Amanda, for writing this book. I also noticed that it's self-published. A BIG congratulations on this as well.
