About the Author

When mind is free from past, free from future, free even from the concept 'Now,' there is a deep and infinite Silence whose nature is radiant beauty. In this silence the senses open like a flower embracing appearance ― and yet paradoxically neither senses nor appearance move in any way. Lover and Beloved embrace beyond two or one. Every perception becomes 'guru' and silence itself offers up the deepest instructions.
When Silence overwhelms appearance this body becomes Love. Every artist expresses the 'meaning state' of themselves and their culture. All art is expression of 'meaning states' in non-linear methods. In truth all urge to art is the expression of a 'meaning saturated state,' the Total Buddha Nature attempting to communicate. In a Buddha this urge becomes perfect manifestation. Be moved by this urge.
Veneration, exaltation, elevation, deification . . . we no longer have gods to worship and what we have been given to replace them is ............ opinion. Comment this, comment that, like, dislike, quick! Blurt it out with all the finesse of a bulimic's vomit filling the toilet.
Mass market, mass media, mass cultural bulimia. Commercial society has discovered that nothing sells quite so well as narcissism and so the nightly news asks you to "send in your opinion." (They care, really they do! lol ... no, really).
The pretense that people value your opinion, or that they should, is the opiate of the masses. Question the entrenchment of dull narcissism through the glorification of unthinking opinion! Refuse to be the slave of mass marketing disguised as social networking.
Question the authority of your opinions. Question those who would inspire you not to. Question the technology that enshrines your opinions like little golden calves, false idols of mediocrity.
Social media is to authentic dialogue what internet porn is to love. Fakebook and Liespace, the diarrhea of unexamined life, consume the potential of human birth with the mass barrage drivel. --This text refers to the paperback edition.

or if you are longing for something that puts into words what you only thought could be possible.
If you want have your life disrupted by beauty, by fierce honesty, by humor,
by incomprehensible love, then here you go.
I used to think that Pablo Neruda could only answer the questions of my heart, with
his beautiful poetry and signs and symbols....but this book is so radically beautiful,
it takes Neruda to a whole new level. ...and here you can read in English!!!
Sometimes I think I understand what is being said, sometimes I don't. But the act of reading
feels itself like a cup of cool water, the perfect answer.
Yesterday I read a poem from this book to my policy class of undergraduates, and then that night
I took a bath and read some more, silently to myself. You don't have to be on any kind of spiritual
path to appreciate this book, its a perfect answer to confusion in general.
This book is so powerful. Probably you won't
get a better deal in this lifetime.
Meeting the man, there is no separation between the words and the acts - his whole life is manifest poetry. And thus he can dismiss this book as "a small bit of fluff' - as the words are only words, as he alway reminds us. But for us these words are little diamonds, gnostic syllables thrown down into our confused world, diamond words that are pure power and transmission. They have the power to bind us and to truth, beauty and goodness. They have the power to take us beyond our sundry and obscured world, and into a realm of truth. And they are unlike anything written in Tibetan Vajrayana, with it's scholasticism, endless lists and formal presentations of teachings. I suspect also that this book may be unique from a Vajrayana master, in that it makes such wide reference and draws on so many other wisdom sources. It any case I have never met a teacher of any tradition with such a wide palate of colours, feelings, modes of linguistic expression. This book is truly uncategorizable. In one moment it is a poem, in the next a teaching, next a fierce social critique, then a story...
There are books that you read once or twice, and others that you keep with you close by your whole life. This is of the latter kind. It is inexhaustible... a great miracle. May you, whoever you may be, have to the good fortune to read it...
What is absolutely stunning in this book is its kind effect upon the reader who is, as a byproduct of his reading, allured to unburden and disinterest his sense/load/fixation to whatever his mind's self-displeasing and unhelpful agitations, and to allow him to see, be, and breath more freely and more kindly, with a sense of deep gratitude and joy of perception of that which is unfolding before our senses at each moment. In a silent happiness and wonderment I summarize my state after the reading, as well as my view on the book, with Pablo Neruda's words on the title page: "I love you with out knowing how, or when, or from where".
This book is most extraordinary and highly recommended!!!
