This device is a battery drainer. It's the truth. It will kill your DSLR/point n shoot camera faster. What I did was turn off the wireless syncing to my phone until i actually needed shots to be sent...I also shot more efficiently so that the sync process wasn't taking long to get images that were shot at 5 FPS i.e. doubles, triples, etc.
The device when synced up to your phone will ALSO kill your phone battery faster. It's just the truth. But don't sync until you need to.
It's a class 10 SDHC cad so shooting speeds and video recording speeds will be great. You are able to access images fast too, as other Class cards like 6 and below are becoming too slow for today's standards.
If you are a photographer that wants to get images to a client with quick editing from a device for immediate response, this is for you. Oh! And it's built REALLY WELL. Feels rigid like a Sandisk Extreme.
Cons: 1. If you are at a location where your receiving device (like iPad) is connected to wi-fi (like at home), you will need to forget that network, otherwise you will have to re-select the EyeFi network, since it stops transmitting if your are not taking pics for a few minutes. This is irritating.
2. Sometimes the EyeFI network does not broadcast after pictures are taken. I have several remedies for this, but it is irritating to have to mess with the iPhone, or the camera or both to get EyeFi wi-fi to wake up.
3. Cloud storage service ($49 year) - If you do use this (I recommend not), turn the 'use cellular data' option off, or risk burning through your data plan allotment. I was shooting pics at a location where I was not on wi-fi, and using the EyeFi Mobi app. It automatically start syncing with their cloud, and with the 'use cellular data' option on, I used multi gigs of data without realizing it.
4. Cloud Storage continued - I let my subscription expire since I do not need this service, but it just magically reactivated with a month more of service! And sense it automatically syncs (no where to turn that off in the app) it started uploading the 100s of pics not uploaded since January (when it expired). Thankfully I have 'use cellular data' off, so it wi-fi.
5. Cloud Storage continued - cannot turn off the syncing. See number 4. If I start the app, and am connected to wi-fi, it started to upload. I have to delete the images on the phone so they to not upload.
I purchased two of these beginning this year. One I purchased from a local electronics store. Used it for a total of three shoots. Started corrupting images/missing or partial images on the 2nd shoot. By the third shoot, I found the whole card to be corrupted and lost all my data shooting with the camera it was used in. I returned it for a full refund and carried on with my cameras functioning just fine with regular SDHC cards.
Then I read some reviews online about it, as well as tips for proper card care. Made sure I formatted it appropriately (Macbook, in-Camera format) and started keeping all my cards in an expensive Pelican case. Decided to purchase another one.
I use primarily Canon equipment, but did use one of these in my fiancee's action cam, and we couldn't figure out why all the video data kept disappearing from his action cam. The card met specs for the cam, and the still images were there, but not the video.
The card was regularly formatted between uses and between different camera types.
I tried to use this on an "Across the US" trip that lasted several weeks. I Lost my ENTIRE Youtube adventure, and I'm furious about it. By the time I finished my photography assignment and got to my permanent address, I was past the return policy.
I strongly recommend against these cards and stress the importance of a back up camera and back up card for all shoots. If possible, save the money and go get a WiFi capable camera. I'm disappointed I've spent so much money on these cards, when I could have taken that money and traded in one of my cameras towards the total cost of a WiFi DSLR. I'll be sure to voice my opinion everywhere I can regarding this card and a return policy that's not friendly for photographers that work on assignment!
Thank you very much for taking the time to leave feedback. You are correct that the Eyefi Mobi cards can only transfer photos once. We didn't design this to limit functionality, but rather to safeguard against redundant photo transfers. There could potentially be some way to engineer this type of functionality in the future, but as of now it isn't something that any wireless SD card can do, to my knowledge.
Again, thank you for taking the time to post a review!
