My one complaint? If you are going to have part of the story take place in another country, do your research! Basic research involves knowing how to spell the country's name!! It is Colombia, not Columbia. There is no "u" in Colombia (the country in South America). As someone married to a Colombian, this is very annoying!
Someone wants Eve dead and Jake believes it's a family member. Eve refuses to accept the FBI agent's suspicions and to prove her point agrees to bait a trap. As Jake watches Eve give one of the most convincing acting performances of her career, he realizes she's charmed him from the grip of his past and he's fallen in love. But will he be able to save the woman he loves this time.
Eyes of Jade, in true Tess St. John style, grabs you from the first word and takes you on a suspense ride filled with edge of the seat twists and turns you'll not forget. And all the while weaving a love story that will have you smiling and saying, ahh. This series just keeps getting better and better.
Eve Knight has a whole bunch of attempts made on her life in a very short span of time. I immediately wanted to know who was after her.
I also wanted to see how the UST between Eve and Jake came to fruition. Jake is one of the FBI agents guarding her life. He has some deep hurt in his past and overcoming those issues is next to impossible. When the depth of the hurt is revealed, I was actually quite surprised.
I enjoyed the unraveling of the mystery of who was after Eve. Although I did feel the perp kind of came out of left field. I prefer having clues where I can figure it out myself. But that might just be me.
This also was heavy with #NaNoWriMoSyndrome. There was quite a bit of repetition in back story that I didn't think was necessary. Also, we had several scenes that I felt the author was setting up characters for other books in the series. It was pretty heavy handed, and while I like Roy Hanson very much (he's the focus of the next book) the way he and Manny were inserted really slogged down the flow of the story.
Even with those issues, I was still pleased with the story and I'll definitely be looking at the next book in the series.
The polarities keep us intrigued much more than a typical romance, because where one storyline deals with trying to attain fame, and keep it, the other strives to do everything but that.
Agent Jake Dane and his FBI undercover partners come from the world that cloaks them in invisibility, not of the comic flick type, but of real life. They move inside hidden agendas, targets and assignments. Jake isn’t deep undercover, but most he works with are.
Eve Knight is an actress who breaks the jaded Hollywood concept. After overcoming alcoholism, she emerges with all her initial qualities of kindness and compassion intact, giving the reader a heroine not only to root for, but to love.
This story held me all the way through because of these two plotlines. I found I was just as intrigued by the men who elect to go into deep undercover work, as much as I was with Jake and Eve’s relationship.
Because of this, I’ll be reading the other works in St. John’s series. I want to see what happens to the other characters in this story. They leave a powerful mark throughout the book, which is a tribute to the author’s ability to give the reader secondary characters that capture your attention without taking away from the original plot.
Excellent read. Excellent intrigue. Great trip inside two different worlds.
