...This book contains a beautiful message: no matter what you've experienced due to your circumstances...or whatever you've done in your life, you are still precious in the eyes of God. -Taylor Dean, Author of For Nick & I'm With You

About the Author
Charissa Stastny was born in Las Vegas, Nevada. Since she was a child, she envisioned herself as an author, creating such interesting works as The Creature from McGool as a 4th grader and dabbling in cheesy romance plots in her journal as a teenager. She has matured somewhat and tries hard not to spread too much cheese around in her writing now. She graduated from Brigham Young University and is married, has four children, and resides in north central Utah. Writing, reading, biking, hiking, and watching her children grow are some of her favorite things (but it would be hard to put to song like Julie Andrews did in The Sound of Music).
I was hooked into the story from the start. As a man, I liked the action adventure the drug cartel characters provided, the mystery of deciding who is the good guy and the bad guy, and how the heroine uses men and is abused by them. I was also drawn in by the characterization of key people without having to keep track of multiple people. Charissa gave us thoughts, feelings, and motivations of these people so I felt I knew them. The characters drove the plot. On the other hand the plot could have been moved along a little faster with fewer repeats of how Suvi denigrated herself and was therefore unworthy of James. Suvi was a little too terrible and James a little too perfect. I won't miss reading book two because I want to see what happens when the Cartel comes after Suvi. Is it possible for Suvi to find peace and safety in the arms of James? M. Jensen
"Eyes of Light" takes the reader from Mexican drug lords to Mormon missionaries in Guatemala, with a protagonist who's smart and resourceful yet unaware of her true potential or worthiness as a human being. Torn between violent men in one world and a kind, forgiving man in another, Suvi must find her way towards salvation, and thus escape her demons once and for all. A well-written read that not only entertains but educates as well.
This book was unlike anything else I have ever read. It is definitely a romance - which I don't usually read and the beginning of the book was a little mushy for me - I'm sure it wouldn't be for someone who reads more in that genre. However, it is also a window into some Mormon life and has plenty of adventure. There's a little bit of something for everyone. By the end of the book, I really cared about the characters and am excited to read the next books in the series. This was a real page turner and kept me wanting to keep reading. Thanks for a fun book!
I really enjoyed this book. Two things stand out to me: One, I really wasn't exactly sure who Suvi was going to end up with, and that kept me turning the pages. Two, this book contains a beautiful message. The ending scene brought tears to my eyes. The message is simply this: no matter what you've experienced due to your circumstances in life or whatever you've done in your life, you are still precious in the eyes of God. The author brings this message to the reader rather eloquently. I finished this book and immediately started on the sequel. I'm looking forward to continuing Suvi's story.
This book was such an awesome read! I started it one day and finished it by the end of the next day. Unfortunately I had so many other things that I SHOULD have been doing, but I had difficulty putting this book down. I kept sneaking to read "just another chapter", which lead to reading several more at any given time. This story captivates your attention, entertains your imagination, and leaves you wanting to know what will happen next. From a broken family, to innocently dealing with individuals in the drug ring, mingling with romance, finding unconditional friendship, yet full of suspense.......this book has it all. It will not disappoint you. I can't wait until the next book comes out....the sooner, the better!
This tale is filled with suspense. The story's main characters are well developed. The plot and subplots are nicely interwoven. I really like the way the story ends...just the way I'd hoped it would. This is a well written book and I would highly suggest buying it. It held my attention, especially toward the end. I loved the overall message and the way it was presented. It's always a pleasure to read a new author. Eyes Of Light will not disappoint.
