Months ago, when Craig and Christine first got together, things were intense. The attraction they shared was overpowering and they got real close real quick, and in that maelstrom of emotion things went pear shaped. Craig, who has a history of being hurt by women who keeps secrets, realized that Christine had a secret that she point blank refused to come clean about.
Both of them being stubborn and pig headed ... that was that. They broke up, but still that connection is there, and since they live in each other's lives Craig's best friend and business partner being engaged to Christine's sister, something's got to give.
Written as an interconnected standalone, told from dual POVs, we get a recap of what happened between these two in the background of the latter part of Healing, book one of Rachel Caid's Finding Home series woven through the opening pages of Eyes Open.
Rachel employs a delicate touch as this story meanders around before eventually crashing headlong into Christine's secret. One that, at least in broad terms, you'll probably see coming a mile away, but the writing is so engrossing that, if you're anything like me, you'll be captivated and heartbroken as past and present collide, and sympathize with Craig who is, in large part, powerless to act, at least in the caveman way that his male instincts urge him to.Read more ›
What I love the most about Rachel's writing is the amount of heart and soul infused into each of her books. I can almost feel the pieces of herself that she leaves behind.
Christine and Craig feel like real people with real issues. No overly dramatic trumped up bullsh*t. Just two people living life dealing with everything that comes with it, family, friends and jobs. It's a balancing act for sure but then there is always something that happens that turns it all upside down. For Christine and Craig that something is each other.
Christine is holding back. I knew from reading Healing that she had a secret. One that she doesn't feel the need to share. It's not anyone's business if it isn't hurting them. Right?
Sometimes in life bad things happen and we have to learn to deal and move on. Christine thinks she has done just that. Until Craig. Christine wants Craig. Craig wants Christine but he's not going to settle for less than all of her. This story is about what happens when carefully constructed walls come tumbling down and Christine is forced to expose her darkness and trust those closest to her to love her just the same.
Christine and Craig's story touched my heart and opened my eyes! Sometimes all it takes is a sliver of light to obliterate the darkness.
He never wavers, and is great at teaching Christine that she is a survivor.
There is plenty of hotness and times you want to shake the characters, but you get dual POV to help the story.
I believe this is 2nd in the series, and you can read it as a stand alone.
I will be going back and reading the 1st...maybe by then the 3rd will be out!
Worth the read for sure!
In book two of Finding Home we get Christine and Craig. Christine has been hiding a secret from most of her friends and family for years and it is a huge one. Craig OMG he is the perfect man. Wealthy, forgiving and one who wants to always take care of those he loves. Now all he needs to do is get Christ to understand he loves her and no matter what happened to her in her past he is there for her.
This is an extension of book one Healing and is one very good book. I highly recommend this book.
Eyes Open is book 2 in the Finding Home series by Author Rachel Caid. It is a contemporary romance and can be read as a standalone.
"I can pretend nothing scares me, pretend to still be that girl who can take life by the horns and wrestle it to the ground. One side cold and alone, the other burning to be whole."
We first met Christine and Craig in Healing. They had an undeniable connection, but Chris was unable to let go of her past to see the possible future that was reaching out to her.
"He makes me feel as if he's seen the scars and isn't disgusted by them."
Craig is a gentleman and passionate lover. He gives everyone important in his life the full attention deserved. He is smart, wealthy, has a creative mind, and is in love with a woman who is incapable of freely giving herself to him.
"I will chase you, I will find you, and I will break down any barrier you put between us. You are mine. Always."
Eyes Open is Christine and Craig's beautiful love story. But it's more than that. It is an acceptance and healing story for Christine. Accepting her past, acknowledging her present, and receiving healing for the future. She was a remarkable character, having faced so much but finding light and strength in her darkness and despair. Craig was a sexy, swoon-worthy alpha-male, but not so much that he became an over-bearing or lacked thought for Christine’s opinions and wishes. He challenged Christine. But was always her biggest fan, cheering her on, giving her the hope and the love she needed to see herself the way he did. He also protected her and gave her a safety net to fall back on and cling to, when needed. The relationship that evolved with Craig was one of trust and loyalty.Read more ›
