I have been fascinated with "HOW" a mind works (and doesn't) for YEARS and Dr Kuffel's words mesmerized me from the opening pages!
She had an uncommon access AND insight into the mind of Nathanel Bar-Jonah as he allowed her to meet, interview and correspond with him for many
months after his last arrest in Montana.
Although it was difficult NOT to be repulsed by his horrifying behaviors and the disturbing facts of his activities, Dr Kuffel was exceptional at
recreating those events! Her research was incredibly thorough as were her details about defining and identifying pedophiles and keeping our children safe.
I found it astonishing just how thin the line is between a compulsive liar and a sociopath!
It is easy to see why MOST adults and children would be fooled with the often charming and charismatic ways of the pedophile. They have little concern for others
and are masters at using social skills to manipulate others into doing what THEY want. Lying or exaggerating traits develop early because telling the truth is
'awkward' and lying feels 'right'.
The book begins with the disappearance of Nathanel Bar-Jonah's last known victim as he is unknowingly stalked on his way to elementary school.
BRAVO for Dr Kuffel's well-written, well-organized story AND insight into the mind of just ONE pedophile. Her book should be added to ALL Medical, Psychiatric
AND Educational course curriculums so it's invaluable information will remain ingrained in our thoughts.
As chilling as true crime, as riveting as a mystery thriller, as fascinating as forensic psychology, but most importantly, this book describes how to recognize pedophiles and protect children from predators.
Dr. Betty Kuffel has written a book destined to become the definitive text on violent child predators.
All the books have helped to some degree or other. I have learned how this ties in with Domestic Violence, Gambling, and alcoholism. I actually was prepared to be disappointed because I just wasn't getting to the bottom of what I needed to know from other books.... something was missing.
This author gives details without going into the gory details (thank God, I was worried about flashbacks --I had it out with the pedophile in my life and helped the DA put him in jail). And it's all easy to understand while reading, there is not so much medical terminology that anyone can't understand what is being said.
It's a look at only one pedophile among way to many, but it's a good look, and it explains a lot, for they all have some common traits. If you've kept your children safe, yay for you--read this book and learn and be affirmed that you've protected your children well. If you are not sure, read it and you'll come away knowing some of the things you need to do to help you take care of your kids better for you'll know the extremes these monsters take to get to these children.
Thank you so much, Ms. Kuffei.
It is both fascinating and triggering. Many parts reminded me of my own father who was a serial killer. Even the eye color... had I known I might not have purchased this book to read. I remember the moment I read about Bar-Jonah's eye color. As I nicknamed it long ago--trigger city. I had to set the darn thing aside.
It is an informative and frightening book, and an accurate insight into the mind of a serial killer and hunter of children. I know this from personal experience with my father.
