This was tense from the beginning! Fabulous plot! Intricate weaving of a story that took place over many years, though we only live through 5 months. The pacing was perfect! Immediate hot kiss, then a murder. More details, action, then more romance, more details, etc. Multiple peaks of intensity and stress. These characters will need therapy. What a ride!
The characters have histories that include pain, but their development is lacking. The plot drives this story and the characters are secondary. The romance isn't organic, and behaviors don't always make sense, especially Alec's 180°. Again, plot driven. The setting is urban where it gets quite cold in the winter; there's nothing distinct to indicate Maryland except it's a copycat of the Beltway Sniper.
Do I need to read books before this one: no
Would I read more of the series: yes
Cliffhanger: romance, no; murder, yes
POSSIBLE TRIGGERS
Sex: it happens off page, a little nudity is described
Language: 61 F words, 26 Lord's name in vain, 55 S words
Violence: shootings, electrical harm, torture, murders, breaking and entering, kidnapping

"With an in-depth plot, characters that jump off the page and into the heart, and writing for the intellectual mind, The Eyewitness is a tale for the ages." Crown of Excellence - RONE AWARD Best Suspense/Thriller-InD'tale Magazine
Great emotional depth!
"I didn't just read this book, I absorbed this book, experienced every part of this book and every depth of emotion within these pages. From grief, to heartache, to anger and joy and everything in between." Author, Angela Smith
"This is an action pack romance that just hooks you in with the first few pages." Sissy's Romance Book Review
Suspenseful till the end!
"Their chemistry is off the charts and the dance (no pun intended) is one that will keep you tethered between screaming and flipping pages because I just couldn't get enough. I read this book in a couple of days and kept getting angry at anything that would get in the way of reading." Author, J.L. Lora
"I enjoyed Nancy Weeks's Shadows series so dived right into this book and I was not disappointed. The characters are richly developed and complex. The plot so twisty and turny that I had no idea who could be behind the murder and mayhem. Author, Alexia Adams
"This book was a wonderful one that takes you through a full range of emotions with the characters. Grief, joy, anger, and love are all described amazingly well. The intrigue and suspense are fabulous." Goodreads Reader

Fast paced can't put down book.
"Was hooked from the first sentence. The characters are strong and their emotions jump out at you. You feel like you are part of every scene. Just wish I had the whole series on hand...they read well alone but way better as a whole. This is an author to keep on reading."

My kind of suspense story for sure. So full of mystery, action, suspense, romance building, tearful, tender, just has it all going on. I love lots of turns and twists, clues, dead ends, clear paths to the truth that turn out to be yet another twist and turn, like I said, it left me breathless. Each time I was so sure I had it figured out, I was proven wrong. I had to read it from start to finish, no stops. My gosh, Alec was so complex, Em was really hard to figure out at first and it took me a while to understand just where she was coming from. The bad guys were constantly lurking just below the surface and it could just be anyone at several times. Whew. I will most likely read this again, and then again! Anyone that likes good mystery and suspense and thrills will just have to read this one. Serious Kudo's to the author on this one. Will be reading more of her writing for sure.

This was a fascinating story that I enjoyed immensely. I love it when the author writes such great emotional characters, and this author wrote the characters and their emotions well. I didn’t just read this book, I absorbed this book, experienced every part of this book and every depth of emotion within these pages. From grief, to heartache, to anger and joy and everything in between. Although I am dying to know more about what happens in the series, I love how this is a standalone with a happily-ever-after, and I can’t wait to see what is in store for Emersyn’s siblings. It’s a quick read, as I read it within a day and didn’t want to put it down. I loved the suspense but loved that it didn’t overwhelm the plot and the character growth too much. Each and every character was well done, and I can’t wait to read more.

So many errors, it was horrible trying to read this. Literally, from one sentence to the next, the scene would be completely different, people suddenly talking who weren't there in the previous sentence. Not just once, but over and over. Didn't this 'writer' ever check her own work?? We're there no beta readers? How about a proofreader....you know....someone to actually catch glaring errors...before it was published??? I fear for the integrity of the publishing world now that anyone can start typing pages and chapters and call their unedited mess a book. She had some decent writing here and there, but the mistakes, the continuity errors....ruined what could have been a decent read if she had spent more time and effort on her manuscript before publishing. I started to give 3 stars...but she is doing a series. Need to hold up a bit, actually do better, then publish.

When her father was killed by a sniper's bullet, it went through him and into her chest. She lived and sought to solve his murder. Joe was a detective and secretly working on an old case. Em had fallen for Joe's partner many years ago. After all, he was an angry kid that Joe mentored from his teens. You will enjoy this book as love sparks while bullets fly by. This is a "to be continued" series. If the story was completed, I would have given it a five star rating. Although it is a good stand alone book, it didn't have an end yet.

This book was exactly what I needed. From beginning to end Emersyn and Alec's story will take you on ride. I experienced every emotion in the book. From heartbreak, to nervous, to huge smiles and in between.
Their chemistry is off the charts and the dance (no pun intended) is one that will keep you tethered between screaming and flipping pages because I just couldn't get enough.
I read this book in a couple of days and kept getting angry at anything that would get in the way of reading. It's my first Nancy C. Weeks and also my first of many to come. I can't wait for the next one. I want to know what happens to the D'Azzp family.

THE EYEWITNESS
Emersyn seems to have a target on her chest as well as a shield. Who’s out to kill her and who is playing with her? And who killed her beloved dad? All she knows is that it’s someone close — frighteningly close. Thrilling suspense, complex mystery, and hot romance. GREAT BOOK!

Great characters, storyline, plot, mystery, emotional rollercoaster ride. The whole package in this book. Even when I didn't have time to read and needed to put it down, my mind would wander to the book and I would be thinking about what the clues were, where would the plot take me. You know it was a good book when two days later you are still pondering what you read. This one will be saved and more than likely read again at some point.

Not bad . . .
Reviewed in Canada on March 10, 2020Verified Purchase
The first thing is, the book ends with the storyline not tied up. The crime storyline that is - just saying. I'm assuming since there are three books in the series, the hunt for Joe's killer will carry on. Alex and Em get their happy ever after and the story was good, but not a five star read for me. I found some of the thought processes a bit convoluted and had trouble following the characters reasoning . . .maybe I was just reading to quickly and skimming over bits. I wasn't even totally happy with the way Alex and Em finally came together. I mean his past, his paintings . .all that was good - I dont' know - something was just missing for me. Maybe it's the writing style? I'm not sure. It was still a good read, and I would go on reading the other two to get to the final resolution.

I found this story to be intriguing that it kept me guessing who was the bad gut would be and found that it was who I thought it might be. Interesting characters and not a bad storyline.
