The stand and the wall mount are metal and much stronger than I would have expected for the price. The stand is easily adjustable. The case itself is sturdy metal, and that is a big deal especially for setting up installations in the field. The controls are easy to use and so accessible that I laughed about having a fully-functioned remote. But it could be quite useful in some situations when you have to be across the room from the monitor, I suppose.
This monitor is perfectly compatible with my RasPi v3, including good sound, when connected via HDMI. I did have to add these lines to the config.txt file to get the optimum image (as suggested by JWS):
hdmi_cvt=1280 800 60 5 0 0 0
I've tried 4 monitors now, and I'm keeping this one.
This monitor has an excellent picture and has a number of advantages over the SunFounder monitor:
+ Adjustable base
+ Built in speakers
+ Controls accessible from the front
+ Remote has full set of adjustment functions (including volume control)
+ Remote does not have to be pointed behind the monitor to work (oddly the SunFounder remote did not seem to work unless I pointed it to the back of the monitor)
+ Price is currently slightly lower (but this could change of course)
There a few minor cons:
I spent more than a few minutes trying to figure out how to attach the base. There are no instructions, but once I realized I did not need to use the metal braces, things went a bit more smoothly (you have to unscrew the wing nut on the base attachment gizmo to attach it to the base and then slide the shiny metal piece into a slot on the back of the monitor).
While this comes with a number of cables, it does not come with an HDMI cable.
If you are using this with a Raspberry Pi, the desktop image does not quite fill the screen so there are a few parameters that need to be set in the Config.txt file to get the best experience. Again, no instruction are included in the box on how to do this, but this information is readily available on the internet. Here are the settings I used in my Config.txt file:
hdmi_cvt=1280 800 60 5 0 0 0
But I highly recommend both the monitor and the seller!
