Product Description

Brought to You by The Unemployed Philosophers Guild

The origins of the Unemployed Philosophers Guild are shrouded in mystery. Some accounts trace the Guild's birth to Athens in the latter half of the 4th century BCE. Allegedly, several lesser philosophers grew weary of the endless Socratic dialogue endemic in their trade and turned to crafting household implements and playthings. (Hence the assertions that Socrates quaffed his hemlock poison from a Guild-designed chalice, though vigorous debate surrounds the question of whether it was a "disappearing" chalice.)

Others argue that the UPG dates from the High Middle Ages, when the Philosophers Guild entered the world of commerce by selling bawdy pamphlets to pilgrims facing long lines for the restroom. Business boomed until 1211 when Pope Innocent III condemned the publications. Not surprisingly, this led to increased sales, even as half our membership was burned at the stake.

More recently, revisionist historians have pinpointed the birth of the Guild to the time it was still cool to live in New York City's Lower East Side. Two brothers turned their inner creativity and love of paying rent towards fulfilling the people's needs for finger puppets, warm slippers, coffee cups, and cracking up at stuff.

Smaller and less masculine-looking than I expected. I originally got it for my dad but I'll have to keep it myself, which is fine since I'm also a camera-enthusiast. It would look a bit silly on a grown man's wrist, and the crude metallic parts would make it look cheap as a gift. The concept is wonderful but the execution leaves much to be desired. If it weren't for the unique clock face, for this price you could get much higher-quality watches.

This watch is truly a novelty. Size was not of my liking since I prefer much larger size watch (anything above 50mm) but for a small wrist, a woman photographer or perhaps someone that likes smaller size watch at a very reasonable price, this is a good option. 34mm diameter case + leather wristband. It's made in China so I wouldn't be surprise if the time keeping accuracy isn't good or if even the whole watch itself last long... But.. as a xmas stuffer or novelty gift is a good option.

It's not an "Oh My God, what a watch!" But it's like a collector's thing for camera minded folk. My nephew got a superb camera for Christmas, so I got him this watch to enhance the environment. He found it very cool.

The watch itself looks nice. delivery was normal. i ordered standard shipping. the face as others have noticed is pretty plain and cheap looking but only if you stare at it too long and notice the seams of the paper meeting the face of the watch. would i purchase it again after looking at it in person, yes. the only thing i would buy in addition to the watch is another band. my bf complained of the band being a bi snug and that it makes him sweat. a given with all leather bands but still. its a good watch and a nice conversation piece. the tin that it comes in is a plus.

Perfect gift for my best friend who is a photographer. He always "talks nerdy" to me and teaches me about the biz. FStop is one of the first things he taught me about... so it was a great surprise for him!

This watch isn't very well made for the price. Humidity affects it really easily. And I work in high humidity areas. So I can't really wear it. The band already started to come apart in one spot.
