I figured since it was here, I might as well give it a try and see if the Favi was worth saving. Well I'm happy to report the screen turned out to work well with my projector. I wasn't expecting the gain this screen has. I know it says 6 gain, but I find that a little unrealistic, maybe a lot unrealistic! lol
It does have a tremendous amount of gain though. My Accuscreen was 1.1, this has to be at least 2.0 or more..I'm guessing. Brightness as well as my contrast and colors had to be adjusted on the projector because the screen does have plenty of gain. The viewing angle is excellent for a screen with this much gain. The claims of 175 degrees off axis seem true to my eyes.
Up until I began searching for an inexpensive fixed screen, I had never heard of this company. After contacting Favi, I was pleasantly surprised with how great their customer service was. They sent me a replacement screen ASAP without question. For the money this is a very nice unit. The frame will last forever! If you want to use your favorite screen material in place of the standard screen, this could be a very good way to go. You may find that you are happy with the results of the standard screen and not worry about changing the material to something else.
The screen has some weight to it, so to mount the screen, I attached a 2x4 to the wall, putting 2 screws into each stud to distribute the weight across the entire beam. I used a laser level to enure the 2x4 was straight. Then I screwed 3in screws into the 2x4 at the mount points. I was able to mount the screen by myself with relative ease. I lifted the left side up first, attached the mount to the screw, then walked over to the right side, lifted it up and onto the screw.
I am using an HD20 projector in econo mode, it looks perfect on this screen. I have no issues with daytime viewing. If I didn't get this screen I would have gone the DIY route, but after pricing other alternatives such as screen goo or the cost of fabric, wood, and velvet, the money saved was negligible to the amount of time it would have taken me to build my own.
The frame went together fine and seems relatively sturdy. Some of the screw holes didn't quite line up.
The instructions don't really say how tight the screen should be and could be A LOT better.
The screen itself is decent. I'm not a videophile but the image is a lot nicer than the big roll of paper we had been using. With the velvety finish it looks like a much more expensive item.
All in all I could probably make a do-it-yourself kit for a few bucks cheaper but this isn't bad for $160.
Took a while to set up. And was almost impossible to hang from the wall using the mounting bracket provided. To try and locate a single screw mount on two studs 100 inches a part and keep it level is actuall impossible. Finally used some picture hanging wire to mount it to the wall.
Later I noticed there were several black streaks on the screen when the projector was on projecting a light or white back ground. The streaks were very anoying. They would not clean off. And you could not see anything on the screen even with a bright flashlight. But they were there when the projector shined down on the screen from a ceiling mouunt.
Called FAVI and they would not send replacement screen. Had the screen less than 30 days and Amazon offered full replacement. So Amazon is out of sight. Still not sure why Favi would not honor their warranty otherwise I would have reviewed this higher had they replaced the screen directly.
Amazon is the best. Favi is the pits in my book.

The workmanship on this product was to be kind, lacking. There were metal shards sticking out from the frames ends that will draw blood. Read morePublished on January 18, 2011 by hayou
