Top customer reviews
Well, it took a bit of messing around with it's aiming, but once I found the "sweet" spot, it's working quite well, even on those "red" channels that technically it should be having trouble with.
Unit is feeding a Tivo acceptibly (Tivo tuners aren't the best) and a Sharp TV excellently.
UPDATE: Due to degrading performance (pixelation and picture loss), I finally replaced this antenna with an un-amplified directional one.
Note that with digital TV, pixelation and drop outs may NOT be a matter of weak signal, but a matter of reflections. Back in the days of analog, you'd see a "ghost" image on the screen, but with digital TV it confuses the decoder and the picture goes out or pixelates depending on how bad it is.
I think the performance degradation was a matter of tree growth and other environmental factors, and I'd still rate this antenna as above. It just turned out to not be the best choice for Burbank Ca.
When we had analog I had no problem pulling reception any time of the year. After the station went fully digital, the only time I could receive the free over the air stations is when the leaves were off the trees. So, I finally ended up getting satellite TV (I live in the country where cable is not available.). Anyone else who has done this knows the story, it starts out at less than $30 a month and then 4 years later you are paying $91 for the same programming. Yes, you get local channels With DISH or DirecTv but they don't tell you that you only get some local channels. Example- St. Louis Market offers 2.1,2.2,4.1,4.2,4.3,5.1,5.2,9.1,9.2,9.3,9.4,11.1,11.2,30.1,30.3 with Satellite you only get the.1 channels-2.1,4.1,5.1,9.1,11.1,30.1.
When the Satellite bill jumped to $91 I was done with it and looking for alternatives. Over at a neighbors house one day and she had this model of TERK sitting in her living room pointed out her plate glass front window. Absolutely amazed that she was getting reception of the local channels. The elevation of her house is higher than mine but her front yard is full of 40 foot tall oak trees. I decided to order from Amazon and return it if it did not work.
I first tried it pointing out second story window and amazingly got reception. Don't give up if you hook it up and it doesn't pick up anything to begin with. It actually took several tries to get the right angle and location at first. Also, when you get reception, don't forget you need to go into setup on your TV and have it scan for digital stations. Next I tried mounting on the current antenae mast but could not pull all the channels. It took a couple of hours to find the exact right location for the best reception but its finally done with the base screwed into the roof (use roof tar/caulk to prevent leaks). I'm receiving 11 local channels for FREE (yes, I will miss Duck Dynasty. Sob...but Season DVD's are like $12). I cannot pick up the 4-channel 9 stations but I'm happy with what I have. Other good news, I was able to remove my eye sore antenae from the roof and no more adjusting the rotor to get the channels to come in as this antenae is omni directional.
In conclusion well worth the $60 I paid on Amazon. Reception is great unless the wind gets really blowing and I lose the hole in the tree branches that I am shooting the antenae through. You do not necessarily have to mount the antenae completely flat to pull in the best reception. Sometimes like in my case and the neighbors you need an angle to pick up the signal. Don't give up if you hook it up and it doesn't pick up anything to begin with. I would have never tried had I not seen it in action first. Bigger is not necessarily better and Amazon has an amazing return policy.
