Try not to plug the diffuser under items (e.g. shelves) or close to objects (e.g. behind curtain or doors) as this affects efficacy. We do not recommend plugging your diffuser in near your litterbox or in a hallway - while your cat may frequent these places, they likely do not spend as much time in these places as you'd think. If your litterbox is in the room where your cat spends the most time, you will want to plug your diffuser into that room. Use FELIWAY Optimum each month to create a constant calming environment. Check the diffuser and refills monthly; you'll want to replace the refill each month, and replace the diffuser head twice a year (every six months) to guarantee the best effect. Temporarily Calms Down a Hyper Kitten

I bought this because I'm at my wit's end on how to stop my kitten from going crazy and rampaging around the home like a rodent on drugs despite all the toys he has to play with and other cats to frolic with. I was skeptical about how well this works so I didn't really want to buy it since it seemed like it was targeted more at stressed/anxious kitties but I'm at the point where I'll try whatever options that seem to work.
After about 15 minutes of having it plugged in, it seemed to work. I watched my kitten for about an hour in the same room. For the first 10 minutes of watching him, he sat calmly at a distance, but within range, of the diffuser. The next 20 minutes after, he went to his blanky and rested peacefully and I was so in awe. For the next 30 minutes after that, he did not remain rested as I had hoped but he didn't run around like crazy all over the room and managed to stay by my side on the bed, just trying to play with me but his version of play includes teething and extending his claws out, so I was starting to lose hope. BUT I ended up getting him comfy with his blanky again and next thing I know, I was able to pass out for about 3 hours before he decided to wake me up again for lunchtime.
BUT, that was a nice 3 hours of sleep where he actually remained calm. So in a way, I was pleasantly satisfied that it seems like the diffuser works enough. I'm not super impressed or awed but I guess it's just because he woke me up after 3 hours. I'll give it time and hopefully, it will continue working enough for me to want to purchase more refills.

I really appreciate all the prior reviews on the warnings. Taking that into consideration, I went ahead and bought this product out of near desperation and decided to only plug it in when I am home and not continually. I recently moved, unknowingly, near a clay shooting site and we also get frequent thunder storms here (a different state than our former mostly "one weather" California). Since at my new location, my kitty Aiden has been having a rough time of it. My heart was breaking for my poor little boy. Because of the clay shooting and thunderstorms, he would hide then sleep most of the time. The Feliway spray did nothing. Well since using the Feliway Diffuser, within a couple days, I got my darling boy back. I'd say it's about 95% effective. He's out more, wants to play and cuddle, talking to me more and when the clay shooters are doing their thing, he still hides initially but then comes out shortly thereafter and hangs out with everyone, takes baths and even sleeps belly up or in the kitty tower instead of frightened under the bed all day. In addition, all my cats seem happier and more at ease with each other...less pettiness. On the safety issue: I'm careful not to tilt the diffuser so no oil spills over and I have no other cords above it and I only plug it in during the day and unplug it at night or when stepping out keeping in mind what others have noted on the hazards of this product. The light is a bit bright at night but I quit plugging it in at night for the safety concern. I hope Feliway makes a safer product or a battery option because it has really helped Aiden and all the kits in my household and my heart is no longer breaking :) Best wishes and resolution for all the stressed out cats and their caring pet parents.

My cat doesn't like anything, but she was immediately curious about this. I found she spend more time in the open when it's running. It hasn't had a huge impact on her overall skittishness, but i have seen improvements her general mood, especially during the day where she can lay in front of it for hours. I like that it's unassuming and not actively stimulating or agitating. Very simple, subtle and easy. I do not think it's necessarily a good deal, particularly because it's a consistent investment for oil. Because i can't necessarily recommend this for any specific agitation, it's hard to justify such a cost for all pet owners. I think if the device is $20-25 and the refills are closer to $10-15, i think it's a much easier recommendation. Even if you do find this works with your cat, it is still a questionable price point. At the very least, it's one more way i have to be attentive with my friend, which is always important and valuable in pet products. I like that the enclosure is safe for her, and the nature of the product means she checks it out once or twice but is mostly just enjoying its presence.

Cats are emotional thermometers in a house whether it is good or bad . We adopted a dog and we had two shepherds already . We also had an elderly cat that was slowly heading to the happy hunting ground . There were lots of changes and one of my cats just was having a hard time with it and that led to some pooping outside the litter box (gads) and on my couch !! We took the cats to the vet and ruled out any medical issues . Bought an additional cat tree and purchased this product at the advice of the vet . I believe all these changes has helped the cat . We bought a new couch and took no chances (training mats) . No pooping outside the box . But , we think the multifaceted approach was the way to go . Also, when I get this out of the box and refill it , the cats are all over it . Rubbing their faces in it etc . I have one in the bedroom because they sleep there , one in the family room that has the couch upstairs , and will get one for the office where they spend the day . I am sold but don’t think this cures all. It is one piece of a puzzle .

So, with regard to the purpose - this has calmed all the cats so we can actually sleep at night. We have two visiting cats along with our cats, and needless to say, there was some drama. This worked. HOWEVER, the green light they have added to the plug is so bright, you may as well call it a night light. Its REALLY bright. I put three pieces of painters tape over the light, and it was still too bright!! Luckily, I found an old plug and swapped them out, so we can now actually sleep. I don't even understand why they would add the light. Not needed, wasted expense.

The diffuser has a (Chinese) power plug, so I had to find an adapter but I'm still not sure that it's working. I would highlight this discrepancy to any future buyer. As I ordered it from Australia, I (incorrectly) assumed once I'd received it, that I would receive the device with an Australian plug or an adapter with the order as this seems to make sense if you're ordering outside of China. Disappointed.
